The 2013 Raytheon Trophy

Awarded annually since 1953, the Raytheon trophy is awarded to the top air-superiority or air-defense squadron in the Air Force. Units are not only evaluated on operational mission performance, training and organization as a whole, but also individual achievements, awards and unit incentive programs.

The 67th Fighter Squadron was awarded the Raytheon Trophy for 2013 at the Kadena Officer's Club April 18 by Lt. Gen. Jan-Marc Jouas, U.S. Forces, Korea deputy commander and 7th Air Force commander, and Mark Kula, Raytheon Company Tactical Airborne Systems vice president.

However, 2013 marks a special year for both Kadena and the squadron. Not only has it won the Raytheon Trophy a total of six times, but between the 67th FS and the 44th Fighter Squadron, the Raytheon Trophy has stayed at Kadena three years in a row. Stars & Stripes

I had to share the video from this year's winner, the 67th Fighting Cocks as this squadron is from Juvat's and my old outfit on Okinawa, the 18th. Back in my day the 67th flew the F-4 Phantom, by the time Juvat got there, they were flying the F-15. Note to the readership, Juvat flew both. (No, not at the same time!)

Anyhoo, congrats to the 67th and to the 18th Operations Group of the 18th Wing. (In my day, it was simply the 18th Tactical Fighter Wing. Good times. No, we didn't fly biplanes!)

H/T to my buddy Jeff!

I am associated with two of the organizations mentioned herein. Proud of both I am!

Still, you spent many hours keeping those twin row Wrights running, didn't you?

  3. AHHHHHHHH! Brings a tear to my eye, it does!

Course some of those "looking back over the shoulder to find the other guy whilst pulling 9 gs" scenes might return some of the muscle memories in my neck and THAT's the cause of the tears in my eyes.
