A Birthday...

Dad
Today, the 6th of June in the Year of Our Lord Two-Thousand and Fifteen, marks what would have been my Dad's 87th birthday.

Would have been...

My Dad left this life on the 28th of February. Five years ago.

Five years...

By God but I miss him so much.

Happy Birthday Dad. Love you. Miss you.

One of my favorite pictures of my Dad.

  1. It appears that the profession of arms seems to run in your family. I can claim four generations of Navy and Marines. In fact, I guess I am government issue, born at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Mare Island, California

  2. Great picture Sarge. Judging by his expression, had the world by the @$$ on that day. Which is the way it's supposed to be.

  3. Next week on the 12th my dad would have been 87 also. He will have been gone ten years in Dec. Yep, I still miss him. Your dad looked to be a handsome man.

  4. My step-dad, Don Vermilye, passed back in 1987. He'd been a Marine during WWII. Fought in the battle for Okinawa with the 1st Marine Division.

  6. On my last visit home I scooped up all the photos of my parents lifetime and their parents plus all of those taken of we kids and using the photo scanner I bought for my folks I scanned them all. On my previous visit I bought them the scanner/printer/fax machine and scanned all the Civil War letters from one of my ancestors. I can't believe it took one of us this long to get this all down and sit down with both parents and get the who is, when/where was this taken etc so that more than memory remains.

    1. That is a good idea. My nephew is working hard to gather up all the old family rumors / facts / legends and it's amazing what he's discovered.

As my Mom said the other day, "It's too bad your Grandmother isn't around, she knew a lot of this stuff."

      Too true.

Preserving the family history is very important.
