We've Made the Big Time, I Think

I have been digging lots of crap out of the spam filter lately. Annoying, but somehow amusing. Based on the amount of spam coming in, I think that officially, The Chant has made the big time.

After all, little, unknown blogs don't get a lot of hits, nor a lot a spam. We're seeing a lot more hits lately. Consequently a lot more spam.

The two might be related.

All I can say is that we're big now.

Comrade Spambot loves us anyway.

For an amusing take on Spam, you should read this. Says it all quite well.

Not much of a post today, I know. But I spent last night at my favorite restaurant. I should point out that it was truly the last night I will spend there.

No, the service was great, the food superb, and the company sublime. But they're closing at the end of the month. Starting a new venture from what I hear, but in 2016, Johnny's Atlantic Beach Club will be but a fond memory.

Yes, that sucks.

Farewell, I shall miss you...

A lot.

  1. The ABC is closing? Say it ain't so! That was the best restaurant in Rhode Island. Now I've only been to 3 restaurants in the whole state, but still, it was pretty good!

    1. Word has it that the same folks who run it are moving to a new location. From what I was told they're building a hotel which will have a restaurant inside. Sort of a resort set-up. It won't be on the beach though.

I am bummed about ABC closing. Last night was bittersweet. I concur, I thought it was the best restaurant in Little Rhody.

    1. Dang! Could be.

Your superb Te Papa post just climbed into the top ten all time list with 791 (and climbing) hits. Your recent offerings have been very popular.

    3. That's for a small at our company cafeteria. Not the good stuff mind you but the cheaper "generic" blend.

  6. Running an eating establishment is wearing on the body and soul. There's food quality, health inspectors, prima donna chefs, flaky wait-staff, picky customers . . . and many other things to worry over. My brother gave it a go, up in Maine, back in the late '80s. It wore him down to a nub. I worked there for a time, to help out with the business. Learned a lot. Main thing was, it's not easy being the only sober person in a bar full of drunks. Had run-ins with locals that I had to just cut off because they were so very, very drunk. There was one particular fellow . . . the local BMOC Bully. Name of "Bear." I wrote about it in my blog . . . here:

Just got the same news from a local venue . . . The River Bistro. It served great Mediterranean food and offered live music seven days a week. It had become the second home to local bands and musicians. It was an intimate venue . . . there were times when the customers and the band were intermingled when the crowd was good. Here's a link to a photo of the stage area and my drums set up:

It was sold during the summer while I was ill and the new owners have not asked any of the musicians to come back.

  7. We stayed across the street from the ABC on our last visit to Newport and had dinner there. It was great and we're sorry to see it go.

    1. I know the place you stayed. The company reserves rooms there for the annual Christmas party which is held at the ABC.

Wonder what we'll do next year?

I don't know why, but they love me in Russia!

  9. One of the advantages of living out in the hinterlands is low population density. A disadvantage of low population density is exclusively dog$#!+ restaurants. I feel your pain, but now you have an opportunity for adventure! When a restaurant closes here, it's quickly replaced by more dog$#!+.

Maybe I'm being racist (who am I kidding, just look at me, of course I'm being racist) but when I pay for a meal I expect to receive fair value for my cash, both in food and in service. I can live, btw, with unperfect food so long as the service is good enough. Unfortunately, folks in these here parts have trained themselves to be just fine with dog$#!+ service. But now I'm whining.

Speaking of rooskie spam, I'm presently browsing on my chromebook while my pc is reinstalling avg, which broke within hours of my using certain keywords on my blog. Coincidence?

    1. Coincidence?

      I think not.

For restaurants there are four key factors for me: quality of the food, quality of the service, the price, and the location. The ABC had fairly high marks in all four areas (it was a bit pricey, but not as bad as some, I'd call it reasonable for the location). I can put up with something lacking in one factor, but two or more? Nope.

Where my Mom lives is fairly bucolic (though it's a bustling metropolis compared to Western Nebraska) and the restaurant choices are limited. Fortunately most of them are pretty good.

Humans are very adaptable, sometimes they adapt to, and accept, crap as a "normal" thing. Hell, just look at the current administration.
