This Is Starting to be a Bit of a Pain

(Source)
You may recall my tale from two weeks ago, when I regaled you with issues within my right eye, my good eye.

Today was a return emergent trip to the eye doc, vision in the right eye had deteriorated overnight, in fact, in an instant.

When I was shaving this morning, I had trouble focusing, I wrote it off to being tired, it has been a long week, work-wise.

Driving in, objects in the distance seemed a bit fuzzy.

Trying to work on a big monitor at work, under those thrice-damned fluorescent lights (I can detect the flickering of same, most people can't) proved to be rather annoying. Vision was not getting better. A sudden loss of visual acuity is worthy of a trip to the doc, I called them, they concurred.

While there didn't seem to be anything "new" going on (other than the ongoing, slow motion vitreous detachment which started two weeks ago) the doc set me up to go see (my how that word rings with me) the retinal doc on Tuesday.

From 20/15 to 20/30, nearly instantaneously, is a bother. A real bother. I can see, just not with the same acuity I did before. I'm Mr. Magoo in my left eye, and headed that way in the right.

I don't know if I'll be blogging much this weekend. It's hard to type, harder still to concentrate.

I pray that this too, shall pass.

  3. I'm pulling in on Juvat's wing. Chin up, and I'll be praying as well... I've seen things happen that defy logic when people trust God to do what seems impossible.

  5. Chris, do NOT feel that you are obliged to feed the tiger and write anything at all this weekend. Eye problems are not just disconcerting, they also sap your strength and add considerably to overall anxiety. Rest, relax and think calming thoughts, and we will all be pulling for you on Tuesday. Bon chance, mon ami.

  7. As a distraction to vision problems, I just remembered that nobody mentioned the famous Christmas song about The Navy, and fatherhood.
That's right, what about that guy, Felix Navy Dad.

And Dave nailed it about the stress of vision problems.

    Wishing you well.

    3. Thanks Paul.

This morning I was setting up a project for machine embroidery and I spelled Feliz Navidad, as Felix Navidad.
I caught it when I reviewed it but my mind had already jumped ahead to the pun.
A bit later I read Sarge's blog, and I was sure the pun was bad enough to make folks smile.
      The timing was perfect.

And the song is still running through my mind on endless repeat.

    4. John - A good ear worm for the Christmas season. The kids loved singing along when they were little.

Brings back fond memories. I mean, me being a Navy Dad myself...

    6. No such thing as late here, you're fashionably not on time.

      Or something...

  11. Same as above. Best wishes, prayers, scolding about excess work....
Only other addition is to be sure to take some medical time off work so you can get caught up with your posts when you start to recover.
    Merry Christmas, regardless.

  12. Well, I have mad prayer skills so I'm on it. Good timing by the way. A few days ago was the feast day within the Catholic Church of St. Lucy- the Patron Saint of Vision and Eyesight. If anyone can help, besides your doc, it's her. https://thesaintspub.wordpress.com/2017/02/21/patron-saints-of-vision-and-eyesight/

  13. I had a bit of a scare this week, vision wise. I went from 20/15 to not being able to focus on anything at all with my left eye. This from a guy who aced the vision test at the DMV, both eyes, with flying colors, earlier in the year.
Seems I had put just the tiniest amount of antiseptic cream on a spot on my left eyelid, a little while before. Didn't make the connection at first. Apparently there was enough lidocaine in it to migrate in or around my optic nerve. Next morning, all gone! Prompted me to make an overdue eye appt. though.

Moral of the story: wash your hands before you poke your eyeballs, especially after playing with chemicals. Or playing doctor.

      Glad you're okay Mike.

  14. Ok, so I second what everyone else above has said...take care of you, we will be here when you can be here.
Maybe it is time to think about retirement? Especially if the florescent lights are a bother?

Stress, which raises your blood pressure, is certainly not good for the little-bitty arteries/veins in the back of your eyeballs.
Patting the feline staff is very therapeutic for lowering it...and so are punny jokes from Beans, John, etc. Felix Navidad...heh..

Take care of you!! You need to come first! Maybe "Someone" is trying to send you a message...listen up!! ;)

    1. As you are the Chief Medical Officer here at The Chant, I feel duty-bound to listen to you, Suz.

I am listening (and not just to the voices in my head), retirement is perhaps a year away. But it's close.

    2. Try getting an OTT light for your cubicle. You'll find them at craft and sewing stores, as they are a full-spectrum light, and are useful for sewing, or drowning out fluorescent light.

If the fluorescent lights are still bothering you, use that Red Ryder for a good purpose and shoot them out. Or talk to facilities and see if they'll replace them with full-spectrum unballasted LEDs 'for Energy Saving and the Children' or some other reason. Since you seem to be stuck there for another year, might as well make it a better year.

And Suz? Inappropriate humor is my forte. I will make sure to poke the bear, not A Bear, as often as I can.

    3. I don't have a cubicle, which is good.

Besides the hat works. On so many levels.

  15. Poking A Bear just doesn't sound healthy at all for sure!!

    Same for Badgers...

    Or Mr. (Santa) PLQ...

(Checking under the bed, and kitchen table) Nope, nothing to see here...

Ask the eye doctor dude about Bean's OTT light...sounds cool! And I like his suggestion of getting the bulb replaced with LED's--Hubbie has one in the basement over the work bench--sucker is BRIGHT!!

Praying your eyeballs will behave so you can finish out the next year!!
