That site has tanks and artillery and other 'splodey goodness as well. All of which you can go check out yourself or see here. Of course, over there, you don't get the pithy commentary.
Then again that might be a good reason to go over there!
Seriously, they have loads of awesome videos. You really should check it out.
Here's a favorite of mine, CAG-1 off the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65), my son-in-law's old outfit.
A lot of this footage is from Strike Fighter Squadron 211 (VFA-211), nicknamed the "Fighting Checkmates". Good stuff.
At about the 0:45 second mark note the name on the back cockpit of the other jet, CAPT Dee Mewbourne CVN-65, he went from being the captain of the USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN-69) to being the captain of the ENTERPRISE. He basically went from being the CO of The Nuke's carrier to being the CO of Big Time's carrier. (The cognoscenti will know why. That was not a happy time!)
I know, I know, it isn't the mighty Knighthawks of VFA-136 (ka-kaw!) but the Nikels are some outstanding aviators. Take it away mateys!
Who knows, I may have some real content tomorrow. But for now, enjoy the jets!
Both Sq insignia depicted look overly aggressive to me--forcing dogs & cats to carry bombs & missiles is animal cruelty for sure--have to redesign and schedule all those who approved of the original art-work and willingly flew under it ever since to sensitive training. Think I'm kidding? Wait until the Navy gets a female CNO? Hell, don't even have to wait for that. Remember when SAC was still a specified command a decade or so ago and morale was low because they didn't seem to have anything to do now that the Cold War had ended? Well, the CG, HQ 22ndAF at Barksdale, Shreveport, La decided to allow "nose art" on his Bongos to boost morale. The out-roar from the feministas over some of the "sexist" art-work was so great that he backed down and canx the entire project. So much for morale and "fighting spirit"....
ReplyDelete***2ndAF is now 9thAF, but still HQ @ Barksdale..
ReplyDeletePS: Yes, I know I'm an uber un-PC reprobate sexist pig, but it's too late in the game for the education-camps to do any good for me...:)
ReplyDeleteAh Virgil. I like the cut of your jib. If you run for office, let me know, you'll have my vote!
ReplyDelete"... 'splodey goodness..."

Awesome!
DeleteThanks for the link Skip!
Me too!
DeleteWho knows, I may have some real content tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou had real content today; there ain't a thing wrong with plane pr0n. Speaking of which, this was the Finest Kind o' plane pr0n... i.e., no cheesy, third-rate "rock" (or worse: hip-hop/rap), just beautiful jet noise. Kudos to the producers, may others follow their lead.
That site has a lot of good stuff.
DeleteThat was an excellent video. Especially enjoyed the sound track. My question is what was the air force SSgt flying in to take pics of USN F/A-18s?
ReplyDeleteThat puzzled me as well. But after the great copyright fiasco of July, I don't ask questions I just credit the photo as directed.
DeleteThough that would be "nice to know" information.
SoCal, that particular AF SSgt has a number of photos at http://www.defense.gov/. Chase the Week In Photos tab, lots of good pics by military photographers!

Also possible he was in a Joint billet. I (and my team) had a lot of time aboard Navy ships.
DeleteAnd we are all about being Joint here!
DeleteAnd we are all about being Joint here!
DeleteThere are a LOT o' ways to take that particular comment. Think "Colorado." Or Washington (state).

DeleteWatch the Feldman eye for a neat demonstration of eyeballs down g.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Good one.
