Experimenting With the Layout, Part the First

(Photo is in the Public Domain)
After extensive experimentation, fiddling around, tweaking, doing copious research and changing the furniture around - here, before your wondering eyes, is the first attempt at solving the Captain's Dilemma.

Let me know what you think.

Ah damn, the mice got out!

Oh, the mouse wheel scrolly thing seems better too. I could go to 125% zoom before having to do any horizontal scrolling. Even then, it was a slight scroll to the left and then everything was just peachy.

Though as always, if you or any of the Impossible Mission Force are captured...

Er, I mean, YMMV.

  1. It's still too wide for my screen and I have to keep scrolling right to read everything. What's up with that?

    1. Hold down either of the control keys and you can use the mouse wheel to shrink and grow the screen.

(Argghhh! Now it's too big. More experiments, I need more experiments!)

  2. Very nice. Much easier on the aging eyes.

    1. Another mod is forthcoming. Not sure on the ETA but soon.

The good Cap'n himself had a suggestion which I believe will please most of the readers. (Not all I'm sure. Though this is a pretty reasonable bunch!)

  3. A little too wide, will see what the next mod brings.

  4. It is tempting to use the old fire control words but I won't. I suspect you and I use the same sort of template. It's the picture at the header that governs the screen width. I wanted mine to fill the space and tried it that way but it overrode all content below and I could not fix it. I am, however, just a speed bimp on the internet highway/ Other people's mileage always varies.

    yeah, bimp

    1. Hmm, I've expressed my concern about that HUGE header in the past, taking up so much real-estate that you can't see the new post without scrolling down. Looks like I'm not the only one! Not my house though, I just rent space here, and I'm late on my payments.

    2. Ah Captain, my Captain. Thou are not but a speed bump on the grand highway that is the web of world-wideness.

I have been playing around with the header but it's more than that. I may have tweaked the "Simple Header" at some point in the past.

Repairs are ongoing, may have to take the beastie into dry dock over the weekend, ya know scrape off the barnacles and such. But you've put me on the scent and I will not quit.

      Not yet anyway.

    3. Tuna - I do recall your concerns vis à vis the header. I shrank it fore and aft so you could determine if new content was available. As you might recall.

Seems there is work to be done athwartships as well. I'm on it.

  5. I can't see much change from here, except perhaps for the font, which appears larger. I'm using Firefox 33.0.2, btw.

    1. Buck, I have experimented over at your place with the zoomination (I use Chrome) and such (using the Ctrl-mouse wheel technique, which is the same as Ctrl +/-) and your blog behaves as the good Captain (and myself now) desire. Pray tell, what template do you use?

Inquiring minds want (nay NEED) to know.

Yes, I did embiggify the font.

    2. Sorry for the late reply but I have NO ideer what my template's name is. Blogger USED to make the names of the templates accessible but it appears that feature has been done away with.

    3. Not a problem. The Captain is now happy (as are Skip and Joe and a couple of others) so I'm going to down tools and run with the current layout for a while.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
Can't be nice, go somewhere else...
