Lazy Evening

Those two big schooners have been around on and off over the last month. When they're not in Bristol they're down the Bay in Newport, maybe out to sea for all I know. (I would be.)

I've been meaning to get a photo of those two beauties for a while, the one day I drove down to snap a photo? Yup, out on the water somewhere.

Now taking that photo was a bit of a challenge because of the location of that pier they're tied up to...

Google Maps

Not really any place to park unless I stopped in at the Herreshoff Marine Museum, of course then I might feel obliged to go in, and while I've been meaning to do that, the opportunity just hasn't presented itself. Yet.

Now Wednesday there was no traffic at all on Hope Street (which I travel nearly every day, for the views that are in it) so I just stopped in the middle of the road and took the shot. Then moved on.

Thursday night on the way home traffic was a bit busy. Not Boston busy, not even Providence busy, but Bristol busy. Yup, the trip home took ten extra minutes, 30 rather than 20. (And it takes 20 because I adhere to the posted speed limit +5. Drives the locals bat shite crazy!)

Snapped this photo after coming across the bridge...

I think it's shared between the Rhode Island Turnpike Maintenance folks and Roger Williams University, which is just across the road. I think it's a cool little complex and I wanted a photo. So I had motive and opportunity, but no crimes were committed in the taking of this snapshot. I was stopped for a red light just ahead.

Here's an overhead of the buildings (in the yellow circle)...

I tell ya, the scenery around here never gets old.

I spent a lot of Thursday evening appreciating this view.

Yup, I love it here.

    1. Unfortunately, they won't rent in ten-minute increments and that's all I could afford.

  3. You have a lot of wonderful views...and I agree with Uncle Skip about living aboard. Though I have a myriad of responsibilities at the moment, an offer to do that - in that place would be something that I don't know that I'd be able to turn down -- saving the nation be damned.

    1. There are days that I get the urge to roam. The line "80 feet of the waterline, nicely making way" always pops into my head when I have that urge.

I think I listened to "Southern Cross" about 10 times the other night. Wind, sea, and sky call to me from time to time, I manage to resist its siren call, but damn, a fellow can dream can't he?

  4. You ought to check out Lou at "Tips From a Shipwright" on YouTube. He's over in Jamestown. Great videos to satisfy your boating kick!

    1. Nice. I think I'll be spending a lot of time watching his stuff. Just watched an intro clip of building a skiff, about 8 mins long. Really good stuff.
