Destruction-Check, Construction-Soon

Ok, Campers, we had a bit of progress on the house building thing.

No, Beans, construction hasn't started yet.  But...we have had the guy in charge of construction out to the property a few times.  We've discussed what is going where on the property and figured out that we're going to need a bit more space in a couple of the places we're going to build.

First would be where my brother's house will be.  They took down some trees and cleaned out the underbrush.  Which is a job in and of itself.  Who knew Texas had jungles?  We just need about 4' deeper for the 40' length.

We also brought out a guy from Morton Buildings to look at the property where we wanted the horse barn.

That gap between the two sets of trees is reserved for the horses and their abode.

He had all the nice stuff and could get it done fairly quickly.  However...

Yes, Beans, the price.  Holy Molely. $150K for a 20x30 barn.  Our builder said he could do it for considerably less.  So...

In any case, as soon as the architect finishes the blueprints, our builder will get started on the home. We expect them any day now. The builder hasn't changed the stated completion date (AKA December) but "started" would be nice.

Well...I guess we have started.  Got electricity on the property.

If we need a new construction engineer looks like our grandson could handle the job.

Just kidding.  We're making progress and things should start taking shape shortly.

Peace out, y'all!

WAS a chunk of change. Our home builder’s price was considerably lower. Guess who got the job!

    1. Yep! We had that on our prior property, worked fine. I don’t think the horses actually wanted a suite ar the Waldorf Astoria.

  3. Electricity counts, Juvat! Huzzah!

That sounds like a lot for a barn, but to be fair I have zero idea of going prices of such things now. Once upon a time, anything more that $1.00 for fuel a gallon or $1.25 for a pack of cigarettes sounded outlandish, and yet here we are.

    1. THBB,
Yeah, I remember the time when gas went over a buck. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Who knew it would get to $3+ and sometimes $4 (especially in Texas!!).

  4. I've been watching Perkins Builder Brothers on the uTube, and apparently in North Carolina one can't start construction until the temp power pole is in and turned on. Clearing & digging yes, but no building. So, you've got a major milestone checked off on the PERT chart!

    1. Sarge,
I'm definitely studying patience. But our builder is explaining what's going on behind the scenes and it makes sense, so...not TOO big an increase in BP.

  6. Nice dirt! Gotta love the outdoors.
It is so much fun to watch your project. Our kids just bought a lot near Ocala FL and plan to build this year. So excited that they are getting out of California, sad too. Fuzz D4

    1. Fuzz,
Lotta people leaving that state. One would think the state government would look into the why of that. But....Nah! Newsom knows what he's doing.....Right???? An awful lot of California plates seen here. Were I them, the very first thing I'd do is register the car and get new plates.

    1. WSF,
Good point! I think we'll have all four without any difficulties. And I think the horses will be happy not to be in their temporary home. (A bit small fenced in area with little grass. Fed Hay, but little area to roam around. The sooner we get them out, the better.

  8. Progress! Thanks for keeping us updated. It's exciting to watch! Are there any Amish communities nearby that could assist in the construction?
