Robert Stryker (MOH) http://army.togetherweserved.com/army/servlet/tws.webapp.WebApps?cmd=ShadowBoxProfile&type=Person&ID=70622 and http://virtualwall.org/ds/StrykerRF01a.htm
The other warrior is said to have been the most decorated American Indian, WWII, Korea and Vietnam 1st Sgt Pascal Poolaw. http://army.togetherweserved.com/army/servlet/tws.webapp.WebApp?cmd=Profile&type=Person&ID=7995 and http://www.virtualwall.org/dp/PoolawPC01a.htm.
I was fortunate to serve with both of them. Stryker was in my platoon and Poolaw originally was our Plt. Sgt. (for 3 days) before they made him 1st Sgt. prior to my transfer to the 2/28th with Randall. Both where KIA in a VC/NVA ambush about 3 weeks after Rip Randall was KIA in the VC ambush. Five men from my old platoon along with Poolaw and others where KIA that day. Note: (there is a book about the ambush Randall was KIA. "The Beast was out there", we had 60 Kia and 75 WIA that day out of about a little over 140+ that went out.
Both extremely bad days for me. The Blue Spaders chopped in the next day to the airfield/SF camp the rest of us left from the 2/28 that was left at Loc Ninh. I got to visit with what was left of my old platoon and get details prior to them lifting out to their basecamp. You can get a lot of info on Sgt. Poolaw if you search on his name. The man was a true warrior and wonder leader who cared about his men. .....Joe KarczynskiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684531976778247960.post-36642050648552338412016-06-12T14:53:30.280-07:002016-06-12T14:53:30.280-07:00Same here Paul.Same here Paul.OldAFSargehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15935839956936191547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684531976778247960.post-17846752284793892872016-06-12T14:53:07.213-07:002016-06-12T14:53:07.213-07:00Thanks!Thanks!OldAFSargehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15935839956936191547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684531976778247960.post-62892023454413478872016-06-12T14:32:13.565-07:002016-06-12T14:32:13.565-07:00Thank you for yours also!Thank you for yours also!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684531976778247960.post-9868244511902479812016-06-12T14:09:32.959-07:002016-06-12T14:09:32.959-07:00Thank you for making me aware of this fine America...Thank you for making me aware of this fine American. Very good article that however needs a few corrections. "Rip" was not with Recon when with the 1/26th Blue Spaders. He was with C Co. 3rd PLT. He was assigned to Recon when he went to the 2/28th Black Lions, while myself and another Blue Spader from the same Blue Spader platoon was reassigned to B Co. of the 2/28th. Broke my heart running "Rip" to that chopper, having to strap him into the door gunner seat, took the cigarette out of his mouth so it could not fall and burn him. RIP Brother. .... The Mayors home (Harvey Sloan) was right behind us overlooking 4th St and Central Park. (seems like yesterday, but God, its already been 20 yrs since we left) Anyway, I got into a mild argument with my wife over Ali upon news of his death when all the accolades started coming in which convinced me that NO ONE who has not served--especially in combat--can understand the depths of the feelings of those of us who have regarding Ali. It's a wasted effort to try to explain--at least in the abstract. But when I came across this post, Sarge, I just had to read the entire thing to my wife. I had to pause about three times as tears came to my eyes and my voice broke. Once I had finished, she said: "Now I see what you mean." Just think, this is from a wife whose husband was in the armed services (tho we met and married after I was discharged) and supposedly understood what I and the rest of us) went through. So...If it was hard to make someone like my wife understand, what about all the civilians who have never met anyone who has served? I'm afraid it's a lost cause--especially on the "millennials."

And don't get me started on the "funeral." bit. I couldn't stand to watch all the way thru.
