What My Kids Do
F/A-18F Super Hornet of VFA-2 "LUSH"
F/A-18F Super Hornet of VFA-122 "Big Time"
I may have mentioned (once or twice, and only in passing, here's a refresher) that my youngest and her husband are in the Navy. And this is what they do...
I am so pumped at the thought of getting back to my cubicle on Monday.
Well, long story short, we all (with the exception of the Missus Herself) wear spectacles. I pointed out that as pilots ran the Air Force and that none of them could ever be Air Force pilots, which would be a better option? My son, the Naviguesser, decided that the Navy would be just the thing. His sisters followed him. And The WSO married a Naval Aviator. So it's because of the lack of 20-20 vision in the family. And on such things does the world pivot. (Or so it seems!)
I am not anti-AF by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I tried to both enlist and go O in the AF. But for reasons that take paragraphs to explain, neither worked. I work in a cubicle in San Diego and one of the guys in there is an AF Academy grad. He's a great dude, but he takes a lot of gruff from the other four of us. We have two 30 year Navy types and then me and a retired CDR...
Ouch! I pity your Air Force co-worker. I have spent time with 5 Navy JOs all in the same room, all of whom were family. Imagine that, myself, a crusty retired USAF MSgt, and 5 JOs! I did go down fighting, but was overwhelmed by their sheer numbers.
My Squidly Son never had the opportunity to have his grandfather, father, and brother all gang up on him and more's the pity, but he gets da bid'niz when us three survivors get together. It gets to be funny sometimes but I'm sure you know ALL about that.
I'm guessing you're a proud old AF sarge.
ReplyDeleteIndeed I am Joe, indeed I am.
DeleteLets see...sitting in a cubicle...or...flying in an F/A-18F.....not much difference from what I can see....
ReplyDeleteYup, damn near identical experiences.
DeleteSigh...
You better give equal time to the Nuke and your son or they're going to think the one with the cool job is your favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe WSO saw your comment Tuna and sent me the following text "It's okay...everyone knows I'm the favorite :)"
DeleteBut you're right, the Nuke and the Naviguesser need more time. I'll see what I can do.
Heh. We love them all equally!
DeleteTrue. But some have cooler jobs than others. Just sayin'...
DeleteAnd these F-18 drivers actually get paid to have all that fun!
ReplyDeleteSomehow seems just wrong doesn't it?
DeleteLove this. How did your pups end up in the world's finest Navy and not the AF?

DeleteThanks N1!

DeleteIt wasn't pretty!

DeleteUm yes, yes I do!
Delete(Tell Sam that I feel his pain. Heh.)
