The Weekend That Was

Kodi and Bear on the long ride home.
The weekend was, simply put, awesome.

Though we did have this to contend with...

The Nuke, her man and their two dogs (Bear and Kodi) had an interesting drive from Alexandria to Little Rhody on Thursday.

The weather was quite, let's say, nasty.

Most of the Eastern Seaboard looked drenched, whereas Little Rhody remained a pocket of quiet throughout the day and well into the evening.

The morning of the Fourth dawned overcast and drizzly, though nothing to stop the nation's oldest Fourth of July celebration was in the cards.

But at noon it began to rain. Oh Lordy, did it rain.

Came down in sheets it did.

But it was on and off. As dusk arrived, the sky to the West was clearing. It was very dramatic, a bright sky with fast moving scud painting the horizon. So the rain had passed, but the wind now took center stage.

But it wasn't much, at altitude it looked fierce, at ground level? Meh. Maybe ten to fifteen knots. Tops.

We all went out for ice cream.

Saturday and Sunday the weather was, in a word, perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Sadly enough, the weekend ended far too soon.  The Nuke and her tribe piled into their vehicle and headed South. The two dogs looked like they had had a good time.

I know the rest of us did.

Well, except the cats.

They pretty much stayed hidden most of the weekend. Only coming out to make a mad dash for the basement litter box past the startled dogs.

The looks on their faces seemed to say, "Cats? You have cats?"

After the dogs had left, both cats came out from hiding. Looking rather like survivors of some horrible natural disaster.

But it was quite a good time. I had a vacation from the blog. Tuna and Juvat more than made up for my absence.

Now it's back to work.

Here, and at the paying job.

But summer is in full swing.

What's not to like?

  1. Glad you had a good time, got to see your family and the weather didn't interfere too much.

  2. Hey Juvat, how much crap do we give Sarge for not saying anything about us doing all the heavy lifting 'round here? Ha ha. Glad you had a good time.
