Friday Morning

Good Morning!
I think that if I read one more "the sky is falling" article, I will go bug-eyed crazy.

Things are never as bad as they seem. Of course, assuming that everything is hunky-dory is not a good idea either.

The crap in the Middle East and the crap in our own Midwest immediately spring to mind.

There are problems in the world, foreign and domestic.

The politicians are not going to solve those problems. They, for the most part, are incapable of performing any useful function. At least that's the way it seems to me.

Unless running for re-election is considered a useful skill.

As for me, I will do my job, pay my taxes and play by the rules.

For now.

  1. Yep, the sky is always falling. Whether it's acid rain, the ozone hole or global warning, it's always five minutes to doom. It's good to see you are keeping it real.

You're right. Sometimes they're WORSE than they seem.

  3. Various people who loved me used to ask me why I watched the news for 18 years when I hated it so much. I had to tell them it was simply because the news was going to be the first indicator of my next out of country experience courtesy of the USN and either 5th or 7th fleet. It was how I prepared. Now that I am retired and have only been ordered back to active duty once since then, I no longer watch the news or even listen to it. I admit to a certain amount of tugging on superman's cape though. I enjoy it. Say! Did you hear there's another asteroid heading our way! It will be here in 37 years. Screw global warming! This will definitely see us all off before the oceans rise, before the EMP takes down civilization and before ebola kills us ALL! Stand by for rest of the story (As Paul Harvey used to say and I did enjoy his monologue.) At OCS we got 30 minutes free and I spent it in the wonderful air conditioned basement exchange underneath whatever building that was in Newport where one could get a hair cut, buy a towel and slurp some vitamins while waiting out of sight from the DI who was otherwise occupied and listen to the rest of the story.

I looked over the old posts at my place and decided I used to have a much lighter touch. I am heading to Colorado in 2 days and maybe, after a little time in the mile hIgh city I will return, like the phoenix!

    Or not.

and oddly enough, no. I wasn't ever a victim of OCS. Back in the day, there was something ever so much worse. That's what I did. :)

    1. I think we all get somewhat "grumpier" or "pessimistic" as we get older, Cap'n.

Lately things have seemed "out of control" - but I found myself asking "How do I know things are bad?" Because of the news? Because of what I read on the Internet? It's all biased in one way, shape or form.

Things are pretty good with me and mine. So like I said, I'll keep doing my bit to make the world work. It's all I can do.

      Where in Colorado?

I was stationed there twice and went to college there. I love Colorado. All it's missing is an ocean.

I'd say "dig up Kansas" and fill it with salt water. But I'm pretty sure some would object. Can't say I'd blame them either!

  5. Sometimes just getting up and following the rules is all we can do. I hope your weekend brings you some time off and some pleasure.

      Thanks Brigid.

  6. I watch the news, read the news, and sometimes repeat the news.
But you won't convince me that it is balanced in any sense of the imagination.
Much of what depresses us about the news has to do with politicians.
If the media wouldn't report about the pols, there'd probably be time and space to report good news.
...and maybe the pols would go away [fat chance]

    1. Balanced? Far from it, on any outlet.

We should all be Joe Friday and demand of the media, "Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts."

Keep the pontificating and editorializing elsewhere.

And if it happened yesterday? It's no longer news.

    2. I hadn't considered the concept 'much of what depresses me about the news has to do with politics', but it sure rings true.
So, if a riot occurred and there wasn't an army of media to film it, would it last for week or 10 days? Call me cynical, I'm just a grumpy old man.

    3. My bet on how long it would last?

      Day and a half. Tops.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
Can't be nice, go somewhere else...
