Generations

Your Humble Scribe, The Naviguesser and my Dad.
Air Force, Navy and Army
So I've been under the weather for a couple of days and I've had some time to go back through some old photos. Getting them into the computer was interesting. The scanner didn't quite cut it but the new camera helped me out. Though they're a bit fuzzy, they'll do.

That first photo was upon the occasion of The Nuke receiving her commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy.

Ten years ago...

The Nuke's First Salute

There has been a lot of water under the bridge since that day. But that day was pretty special. For you see, her brother, The Naviguesser, who was, at the time, a "shoe" - er, I mean professional Surface Warfare Officer, or SWO (if you will) was in town to not only witness his sister's commissioning, he's the one who administered the oath.

The Naviguesser, The WSO and The Nuke

The Naviguesser had been on active duty for four years by that time and was just short of becoming a full Lieutenant. His day in the sun had occurred in the same hall on the campus of WPI.

The WSO had her turn a year after her big sister was commissioned.

So like I said, had some time to think, got to look through some old photos of some really good times.

Family is important to me. Am I proud of my kids?

You bet I am!

It's nice to have the kids follow you into the "family business". I know, I know, war is a nasty profession but hey, someone's got to do it, right?

So I'm not feeling all that hot, but this too shall pass. In fact, I'm feeling better already.

Took some time to smell the roses today.

It was a pretty good day come to think of it.

Pretty good indeed.

Oh, did I mention that my kids were comedians? No? Well they are. Here's a photo of my birthday cake, back in May.

Am I that old?

Nah, just feels like it sometimes.

You raised 'em up right, Sarge. Glad you're feeling better.

  2. Heck I'm impressed you could fit into your uniform. I'd have to bring mine to Omar the Tentmaker for alterations. I, too, am glad you're feeling better.

    1. BTW, glad to see you wear your flight cap with the proper crush. Your time in the 8TFW shows.

    3. The 8th is where I learned many things. Including how to wear a flight cap.

    4. Ok, since this is Sarge's shop and it is family friendly, I'll go along and call it a flight cap too. Glad you're feeling better.

    5. Thanks.

There sure are a lot of names for that cap.

    1. That is the old saying isn't it?

    2. Your spam catcher/security system and my old laptop just have not been happy together for the past few months. Many clever and/or fabulous comments from my side (I am a legend in my own mind!) just didn't manage to "burn through." regards, Alemaster

    3. And that comment is, on its own merits, clever and fabulous.

Damn spam catchers, sometimes they go too far!

  6. Beautiful memories Sarge. And you are damn right you should be proud...that's a gorgeous family, one filled with a deep sense of honor. Which they didn't get in a vacuum. Just saying...

  7. OAFS, you have much to be proud of there. One point I am wont to be a pendantic peckerwood on, to borrow an oft used phrase from Snake, The profession on Arms is an honorable calling. It is war itself that is nasty. Glad to hear you are on the upswing! Best- Dust the planeless Tanker.

    1. War is indeed nasty, to defend Freedom via the profession of Arms is indeed honorable.

      FWIW, I miss Snake.

Someone once cynically wrote (only half in jest) that the only thing one can do as a parent is try one's best and hope your kids won't grow up to hate you. Looks like you've succeeded. :)
