So Sarge, what's in the news?

WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (May 23, 2015) Sailors signal the pilot of a C-2A Greyhound from the Providers of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30, Detachment 5 to perform engine shutdown procedures on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, are on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

USS George Washington (CVN-73) makes its final departure from Yokosuka, Japan on May 18, 2015 after being home-ported there as the U.S. Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier for seven years. George Washington will participate in the Australia-based Talisman Saber exercise in July before heading to San Diego, where about 2,000 sailors will switch over to the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). The Ronald Reagan will then replace the George Washington in Japan as the Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier, and the George Washington will sail to Norfolk, Virginia to complete a multi-year nuclear refueling and overhaul. The WSO used to be on the Reagan. When I heard earlier this year that Reagan was eventually headed for Japan I wondered if she'd be headed that way too.

Nah, she has something else planned for September, doesn't involve flying, doesn't involve ships.

Nah, it involves grandchildren. Word on the street is that Little Bit is going to be a big sister later this year.

Are we excited?

You betcha.

    1. I shall pass that along. We're pretty excited about it all. Of course, The Missus Herself will be making another long California deployment come the Fall.

    2. BTW, every time I look at that picture I ask myself, "What was I thinking?"

I am never using a fish-eye lens photo again.

      At least not today...

  3. That's some "Big Time" news! Congrats to your kids- and you of course- Grandparenting seems to be your sweet spot. By the way, it's my busy time of the year with planning and execution of a major conference at work, which is why I've been scarce 'round the Chant recently. Haven't had time to get politically peeved, much less creative enough to write. We'll see what I can do in a week or two.

I'll make sure those guys in your office know you'll be back. (I know, I know, "what office?")

    3. Yeah, I think they're all retired Navy, they drink too much and keep asking for money.

Hhmm, maybe they're retired Air Force.

"Hey fellas! I'm gonna need to see some ID!"

    1. Thanks Cap'n.

From what I understand, about 2000 of the WASHINGTON's ship's company will be transferring to REAGAN. REAGAN is also getting a different Air Wing.
