Misty 1

Colonel George Everett "Bud" Day, USAF
24 February 1925 – 27 July 2013
I have written about Colonel Day once before, upon his passing in July of 2013. The good colonel has always been a hero of mine, his photo is up top in what I like to call the pantheon. Not gods mind you but men, damn good men all.

The Nuke once had the pleasure of hearing Colonel Day in person. I don't remember the exact circumstances but she was very impressed by him. The Nuke doesn't impress easily.

The following video is from one of my favorite organizations, The Collings Foundation.

While watching it, things got a little dusty at Chez Sarge, especially when Colonel Day's son (former Viper pilot) spoke.

I'm off to the ancestral lands this weekend. I have a couple of videos scheduled but that's about it. I'm taking some well-deserved R&R. Going to the Apple Festival in my home town and we'll be celebrating Madame Mère's birthday. Hopefully I'll get to see both of my "little" brothers. The Olde Vermonter was off at the Scottish games (with The Young Vermonter) last time I went north and The Musician was busy with work.

Mom assures me that The Musician will also be making the pilgrimage to the family seat. No doubt we can convince The Olde Vermonter to swing by as well. Might have to promise him a meal though. He's like me, thrifty. (No, I didn't say cheap...)

Talk quietly amongst yourselves. I will be checking the comments as time allows.

Enjoy the weekend.

  5. Visiting ancestral homes sounds great, in theory. In practice, Yorkshire & Ireland are a long way from here. :)
