Bereft

Winslow Homer, The Gulf Stream (1899). - Metropolitan Museum of Art (Source)
bereft - deprived of or lacking something, especially a nonmaterial asset.
  • synonyms: deprived of, robbed of, stripped of, devoid of, bankrupt of; wanting, in need of, lacking, without;
Winslow Homer's painting, The Gulf Stream, speaks volumes to me these days.

The seas upon which our nation sails are not calm, storms are brewing, the waves are restless, seething.

The waters abound with danger.

The nation is rudderless, there is no one at the helm. Many of us, like that man upon the deck above, can do no more but carry on, remaining stoic, not despairing of hope.

Though the situation is grim, and believe me it is very grim, there is hope. I truly believe that all is not lost.

Though there are times it seems that way.

We need to soldier on, shoulder our burdens and bear these times as best we can. They will not, they cannot, last forever...
Do not fret because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,
for the evildoer has no future hope,
and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

Proverbs 24:19-20
The time of deliverance will come. Resist the evil and the foolishness which is among the people. Resist the stupidity of our so-called "leaders." This current insanity is but a passing thing.

It cannot stand. For if it does, we enter a new and more terrible Dark Age.

Resist the evil.

Resist the stupidity.

Resist...

  1. Well said, Sarge.

In my mind it's incumbent upon all Americans to seek out and execute such duties as will serve America. These duties are impossible to know in the absence of foundational understanding, which will have to be the starting point for many of my fellows who appear to be lapsed Americans.

America can right herself almost instantly if enough Americans shut up about their misunderstood rights and vacuous passions and put their damme shoulders to the wheel.

  3. Indeed. Notice that there is a ship on the horizon in the painting. Rescue is at hand. Probably Navy.

    1. My thoughts exactly!

(From what I read, that ship wasn't there in an earlier version of the painting.)

  4. Seems the Lightbringer and his fellow travelers are determined to bring the USA down several notches and humble us. They have succeeded. Much to their dismay, we haven't meekly accepted it. We are for some ugly years but the national character will assert itself.

    1. I believe you're right WSF.

(Heh, Lightbringer. The man is an ass, isn't he?)

  5. Good usage of Scripture, Sarge. I have it on good authority that God is NOT finished with the U.S. yet, but there are some dark times we might have to go through, first. But my hope doesn't rest on Man. :)

    1. When things get rough I do tend to look in the Good Book for inspiration. It hasn't fail me yet, I don't expect it ever will.
