Singing Second

(Source)
Turnovers, it's why West Point lost to Annapolis.

What? Oh sorry, wrong graphic.

Yeah, that kind of turnover, the problem Army had against Penn State earlier in the year.

Army did not look like a 2 and 9 team, Navy did not look like a 9 and 2 team.

Both sides played their hearts out. It's too bad that someone had to lose.

A shame really.

Army played a great game, on the last play I was almost hoping Army might actually catch that Hail Mary in the end zone.

Almost.

Still and all, one of the best games I've seen in this series.

Next year Army, next year.

Yup...

The Middies got to sing second for the fourteenth straight year.*

* At the end of the game one of the most honored traditions is demonstrated. The two teams join together and sing the losing team's alma mater as a sign of respect. The two teams then move to stand in front of the winning team's student body and serenade them with their alma mater. Source

  1. Seeing that Army quarterback for next three years will not be pleasant.

  2. It was a very good game in some respects. Happily the correct team won! Have to admit I was sweating throughout.

    1. Certainly no walk in the park. Game was literally up for grabs at the last second.

I could do with a little less excitement.

  3. The best parts of the whole thing is the lack of egos, showboating, and the great sportsmanship on the part of all participants.
    Nobody loses when that happens.

    1. That was true sport yesterday, the only game I will not miss every year.

If told, "You can watch the Super Bowl or Army-Navy, not both." It would be Army-Navy, hands down.

  4. Superb game! Just imagine how kool it would be if the rest of kollidge footsball was like that. Which it used to was, as they say in the south, and not that long ago.

  5. I've no skin in the game yet this was the only football game I've watched all year. I thought it was a great game and agree with US about the sportsmanship. Hope the sport is not too overrated within the Military Academies as it is in other schools.

    1. There is concern at some levels about the emphasis placed on college football at Navy. Are these kids recruited because they're good ballplayers or because they will be good officers. That topic has come up regarding Annapolis. I can't speak for West Point or the AFA, but the Navy has had some problems in recent years.

Still and all, the product on the field is purer than the others in most respects.

  6. Army is getting closer. My brother was a Navy officer, my son-in-law was a Ranger and a West Point Grad. I am neutral.

    1. In your family you'd have to be.

Army came so close this year.

  7. When I was a kid, this game could cause stuff to fly at home.
Dad: Air Force and MT National Guard
Mom: Brother in the Navy in WW2
    It could get interesting......................................

    1. Yeah, I can see that being "interesting."

I can sympathize, Dad was a Yankees fan, Mom is a Red Sox fan. We didn't talk much baseball at home...

  8. One of the best games - as in most entertaining - that I've seen all year. Shame that the Navy kid couldn't have gone to the Heisman ceremony.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
