Requiescant in Pace

Antonin Gregory Scalia
Supreme Court
March 11, 1936 - February 13, 2016

This comes as a shock. I admired the man.

Rest in Peace, Justice Scalia.

I pray for peace and comfort for your family and colleagues.

I pray for our troubled Republic...

  1. Justice Scalia ranks right up there with Oliver Wendell Holmes as one of the great jurists in Supreme Court history. His overwhelming intellect, his insightful questions, and his staunch defense of the Constitution all make him one of the most remarkable members of the Court throughout it's history. There is no doubt in my mind that the campaign to replace him on the Court will be one of the most important political issues of this century. Presidents come and go, but the actions of the Supreme Court last forever. I prey that we get this right, because if we don't the nation will be never be the same.

    1. Roger that Dave. I note that the maneuvering to replace him has already begun. Sad thing is, he can't be replaced, his seat can be filled, but Justice Scalia was unique and special.

  2. Rest in Peace indeed!

When we were at the Pentagon, one of the Priests at our Church was Father Mike Scalia, his son. MAN! were his sermons good. Right on point, very incisive and quite easy to understand. Justice Scalia did well with him.

I agree with Senator McConnell (for once!). Hold off until after the inauguration. However, I find it telling what the D's think is going to happen in November by their screaming for a rubber stamp of O's nominee, before he's even made one.

Been praying for our troubled Republic daily since January 20, 2009.

    1. I had heard that his son was a priest. Pretty amazing that you've heard him preach.

I too find myself (oddly) with Senator McConnell. This is something we need to get right.

  3. I read about his untimely passing last night. I slept fitfully all night.
I'm praying extra for our Republic. I'm sad beyond words.

    Thanks for your excellent eulogy.

  4. With thoughts for his family foremost. His loss at the SC comes at a critical time. So many 5-4 decisions were credited to his efforts. While leaving the SC at eight means we will probably see, instead of 5-4 a number of 4-4 decisions and they will not be in the favor of a Conservative philosophy. Still, better that than letting Barack Hussein Obama appoint a SC judge.

  5. A huge loss for the country. Being of the tin foil hat brigade, wonder how many more before the Lightbringer's term is up?

    1. Don't think that thought hasn't crossed my mind.

    2. The title of one of Churchills volumes in his work on WW II was entitled "The Hinge of Fate." Unfortunately, with the untimely death of Scalia, we are there again, the fate of our nation hanging on an uncertain thread..

  6. It will be morbidly fascinating to see how this all shakes out over the next several months. I hope our R senators are as copious in their probing questions as the D's have been.

    1. Well, that's one way of looking at it. I'm not confident that the R's have "grown a pair" just yet. We shall see.

  7. I want to hide under my bed. We are in a very dangerous situation. This could be the end of our nation.
