A pause for the cause

So, Mrs Juvat and I just celebrated 34 years together.  (Cue Cheers!) Being the ever so romantic guy I am, I took her out to dinner.  A nice bottle of Texas Hills Vineyards (owned by good friends and frequent travel buddies) Malbec went well with the meal and we settled in for a bit of ....Talking.

The male members of the Chant readership will recognize that as an opportunity to crash and burn in a spectacular fireball with little chance of redemption.  My warning receivers were highly tuned.

She happened to mention that we'd both been working some long hours, then asked "Did I think we needed a short break?"

Now, I've been married to the Lady for 34 years.  I don't need Google translate, with translate from "Wife" and translate to "Husband" selected, to know that the Lady actually said  "Dear, we're going on a weekend getaway!"  (Notice the lack of anything indicating optional participation.)

My highly trained Fighter Pilot perception picked right up on that.  Yes it did.

"Dearest, What a great idea!  Where would you like to go?"

(That's what my response sounded like to me anyhow.)

"Hyatt Hill Country Resort"

"So let it be written, so let it be done."

We have been there before, but always with the kids.  This time it's just the two of us, the kids having other obligations.

We'll miss them.  A little....Maybe...

Ok, I haven't been alone with my wife in a luxury hotel since, probably, our honeymoon.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it.

I've got to admit there's something about this shot that I find extremely inviting!
Should you be interested, here's where the photo came from

God willing and the creek don't rise, you'll be reading this Monday morning and we'll be back in the harness a bit more relaxed and ready to go.

Be safe and ....Make good choices!  (An admonishment one of my Daughter's friends would always leave with.  I thought it was funny.  YMMV.)

Update:  Mission successful, a bit of scorching on my lily white shoulders and legs from sun exposure, and a new alternator to be installed in the Wife's vehicle hopefully early this week, but a rental was arranged and the weekend was restful.  Who knew it's possible to sleep til 0840?

Glad you had and the missus had a good weekend. Also glad you shared that with us.

    1. Yes.....well....about that romantic thing, there might be some literary license involved.

      Thanks

  2. Sounds like you made a good choice Juvat. An R&R Weekends is always good for the soul (and the relationship). 0840 is indeed sleeping in.

    1. The place has curtains in it that would have done the London Blitz proud. Eastern facing window in the bedroom, no clouds and still no light in the room. Very nice.

      Thanks.

    1. Yeah, it was nice to get away. The Resort is somewhat elevated, and our room was on the top floor. Sat out on the balcony Saturday Morning having coffee and breakfast tacos (Coffee was Eh! Breakfast tacos were great!) Had the weather radar app on my iPad and watched as it and the horizon were synchronized. Then went to the Lazy River and floated around with a Margarita. Ahhhh!!!!

  4. Last weekend in my own bed I slept in until 0&27. My personal bride thought something was seriously wrong. It felt really good but I felt I just wasted had the day . . .

    1. Yeah, Weekends if I make it to 0700, I consider it a moral victory and evidence of the kindness of Dogs. Most days, it's "Sun's Up, Dad! Can we go play ball? Please?"

  5. Those chairs in the pic look perfectly fit for someone on R&R with all the motivation of a lizard on a flat rock in the sun, lol.(actually, thinking about it, the sun heats up the lizards blood and makes 'em even more active--best stay in the ac-conditioned room with the black-out drapes. :)

    1. Fortunately, the weather has cooled off a bit, high temp on Saturday was low 90's with just enough breeze to keep the humidity under control. Alternating between the cool pool and the warm sun, kept the body temperature in the comfortable range.

  6. Weekend getaways are a thing of beauty, if and when they can be arranged. My wife, something of a workaholic, rarely wants to take the time to go - but always enjoys it when we do.

Good on you for making it happen, and making it nice.

  7. My only response is to take in as many of those as you can get.
Ya never know what life is gonna hand you tomorrow.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
