Greed

(Source)
Ah money, the things one can do with it. However...
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 1 Timothy 3:3 (KJV)
While that was advice to use in picking bishops and church leaders way back in the day, I thought that it kind of makes sense to have politicians adhere to a similar standard.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil... 1 Timothy 6:10 (ASV)
It isn't money itself which is evil, but the lusting for it. (I don't count it as love. Love is good, lust, not so much. I wonder what the original Greek word was...)

I do like having a bit of cash in my pocket, whether the old fashioned printed variety or the plastic card access to same, it's good to have some way of buying things. Many folks have asked, "But how much is enough?" Well, I figure that if you earn it, the sky's the limit. Just don't screw your fellow man to get it. That's my philosophy.

A rather short post for a Friday, I know. But I'm still working late and I had to (have to?) get up early to go to the dentist. Just a cleaning, don't panic, but still, it's my day off. And I had to (have to?) get up early.

So the need to sleep overrode the need to blog. My apologies, perhaps I'll put something up later today. (Tomorrow? - All the stuff in parentheses indicates that I was time traveling when I wrote this. I mean, I slapped this together Thursday evening and you're reading it Friday. So which tense do I use? Present, future? All you grammarians can chime in if you wish. As for me, I'm tired, I'm going to bed. Er, went to bed? See, confusing innit?)

Bis später!

  3. The ancient Greeks actually had three words for it: "Agape", "Eros" and "Filie".

    1. Ah those Greeks, a word for everything, most of which require a paragraph in English to describe!

  4. The original Greek word is "φιλαργυρία" (philargyria) - love of money.

There's a pretty good discussion of what it means, here.

    2. Nope. I'm a pretty face with a boring job, Google, and a deep respect for the sheer amount of Biblical analysis that other people have written down :)

  6. The qualifications for an elder in I Timothy always struck me as the qualities one should expect from every follower of Christ, but exemplified in those mature enough in the faith to guide and instruct others.

  9. I b'lieve it's "I gonna did."

I think a constitutional amendment to limit elected officials to their elected pay and no more is in order. Also they should have to return to financial status quo ante plus ZERO at the end of their elected service, and be disallowed in perpetuity from working for/with any government agency, period. And make violations a capital offense. They'll keep swindling if we keep letting them do it.

    1. Love the grammar tips from you and Joe. I shall incorporate them into my lexicon.

As to your last, yes, we let them play with, and steal, our money. For it is OUR money, collectively.

Check their "Why was I moderated?" link near the top of the page. I'm also not sure what their policy is on Any Mouse comments. Lots of blogs don't like them or will send them immediately to moderation. It might take a while to get moderated.
