Just a little something for the home team.
Sitting at my desk working on tomorrow's post, the Tube of You is cycling through what Google (Hiss!!!) thinks I'd be interested in, and came across this one. I hadn't seen it, but what's not to like. Flying -Check The right fighter- Check Firing Missiles - Check Air Refueling - Check (See, I toldja the KC-10 is a BIG aricraft) Air to Air Dogfighting - Check Formation Landing - Check (followed immediately after with a single ship landing, as #2 bounces it and gets airborne. Doofus) So....
Unfortunately, he used copyrighted music in his video, so you'll have to click here to view it.
Probably posted by # 2 (Doofus can't even land the jet.) So, I found another
Doofus? All you can say is... Doofus? Here I was, expecting some Air Force version of salty talk and I get... Doofus?
Then I remember some of the ways my dad used to describe people who couldn't handle flight school. His most colorful expression? Stupid Idiot. Or when describing a total... doofus - just plain idiot.
Is understatement a requirement for pilot-speak?
Great videos. Thanks for finding them for us out here in Chant-land. Sometimes it amazes me on what you can find on yub-tub.
Yep, One of the most crushing but chewings I got was comprised of "Really?" with a raised eyebrow. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I'd screwed the pooch on that one. But then I had a deep respect for that leader. Hint...he's on the masthead. Bouncing a landing because you over rotated on aerobrake trying to show off for the video....Doofus!
Salty talk is pretty much the exclusive realm of enlisted Navy instructors and the Marine DI. I have heard others attempt it, but they fell far short of the target.
Now that I think about it, my dad used 'idiotic' as most people today use the 'farking' word.
Bad design - "Idiotic Engineers!!!" Bad decisions - "Idiotic chair warmers!!!" Bad food - "Idiotic dieticians!!!" Bad maintenance on his plane - "Oh Chief, would you please..."
Yeah, It was after a double turn. On the first mission I was the "student" and another IP briefed it. I knew that what he was saying about BFM was BS, but, Hey, he was the IP. So, on the second mission, I gave a repeat of the briefing I'd received, Ras flew it as I briefed it and we got our butt handed too us. He'd asked me why I didn't brief what I knew was the right way. I told him "school solution" and that was when it happened. NEVER did that again.
Yeah, it was fun (when the ordinance was simulated), probably not quite so much when it was for "realsies". All that having been said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for the post and video. Almost as much fun to see the video as it must have been to fly it. Well, as a non-pilot, that's what I think. Your view may differ.
You're welcome. Still feel my stomach and leg muscles tense up as I see the air to air situation developing. Vicariously is as good as it gets nowadays.

True, I don't know much about the Navy, but I have see a few Marine NCO's with quite a colorful vocabulary, so to speak.

Never said my dad was a dummy.
No, I learned that particular distinction very early on in my career. Quite possibly when stationed with our esteemed host.
DeleteA raised eyebrow and a "Really?" from Ras? Now that has to sting!
ReplyDelete(And yeah, thanks for the videos and thanks for covering for my tired butt. BWE.)
