Fourteen Years

Fourteen years ago today I lost my little furry buddy.

We called him Pat, he was born in Germany, he died in Rhode Island.

I can't believe how much the memory of his loss still hurts.

But I can believe how much joy the memory of his life brings.

Life has its ups and downs.

'Tis better to have loved and lost...

I miss you little guy.

  1. It never ceases to amaze me how our pets become such an integral part of our family and our lives. They ask nothing outer than to be fed, and in return they give us boundless joy. They are (generally) non-judgemental and give us unconditional love. I'm a dog guy, but I understand cat people. Now, with dogs you know their love is absolute. If you doubt that try locking you wife and your dog in the trunk of your car and come back in an hour and see who is glad to see you. Now Pat would have probably just ignored you and meowed for dinner, but even that is a sure sign that your cat cares for you, just like any emperor cares for his subjects.

  2. We're pretty much guaranteed if we have a pet, we will eventually be saying goodbye. The pain is the pain of losing a family member but I continue to accept that pain in return for the love and companionship these wonderful creatures provide!! I can't imagine life without them.

  3. I understand completely, I miss all of my pets who have died. I currently don't have a cat or dog because as hard as it is on me when they die, at least I understand where they have gone and why. I don't think that a cat or dog would ( unless, perhaps, they were present when I died. Having read about pets who continue to look for their person after s/he has died, I don't wish to subject a four-legged friend to that.

    Sorry for your loss,
    Paul L. Quandt

  4. I hate losing my beloved pets, but I hate not having pets even more.

    1. Same here. All the years of joy make up for the sorrow.

  5. I still miss Monty, and he died in 1978! Tomcats improve live immeasurably. I even miss Thomasina, who once came up to the third floor bedroom my brother and I shared, ( a converted attic ), walked the length of the room, hopped up on the bed, bit me, hopped off the bed, and went back downstairs.

    1. The memory lingers forever. I still remember, and miss, the cats we had as kids. Nearly fifty years on.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
