Uh, What?

(Source)
One of the fun things about blogging is reading the comments from you, the readers (aka The Chanters, though I dunno, that sounds rather cult-ish doesn't it?) It can be educational and entertaining, sometimes I get an idea for a new post from the comments.

Then there are the spambots. It's not exactly like they use a random word generator to produce the comments they leave (which usually get caught in the Spam Filter if the comment includes a link, or in the Moderation Filter for posts over seven days old) but it is oh so close.

Here's one I pulled out of moderation the other day, which I'd like to answer now:
Any Mouse - Thank you for the auspicious writeup. It in fact was once a enjoyment account it. Glance complicated to more brought agreeable from you! By the way, how could we communicate?
YHS - Hi there Any Mouse. I'm not sure how the post might be conducive to future success but I'm glad your glance was complicated and was, by me, brought to agreement. (That is what you said, right?) As to future communication, I would not recommend English.
Like I said, sometimes I get a post out of it. Even if it's a really short one.

The comment was on a post from July 2015, Pure History.
This was Post #27 in a series called "I Got Nuthin'..."

  1. Then there are the distressed Nigerian princes who just need $25K from you to unlock their fortune, denied them by cruel fate. But they are generous. Don't think that they aren't! 'They will gladly pay you Thursday for a hamburger today...'

  2. Many do not leave a site to contact and come from A. Nonamous, I have no idea what they are looking for or what their deal is. I had not seen any of these for a while, but they seem to be making a comeback these last weeks.

    1. I hadn't looked at it that way. But yeah, more hits, more spam.

    1. it is a wonder these spambots manage to succeed at anything.

But they're not actually after smart people, they're deliberately chasing people who are dumb

    2. assess the situation, and you'll start to notice that they're deliberately targeting gullible folks.

(I was doing a thing where I tried to evade the swear filter by breaking things across comments, but you had to go and reply in the middle. Friday mornings are weird. Harrumph.)

    3. ar filter.

You're right about the spambots, they prey upon the stupid and gullible.

    4. I didn't think there actually was a literal one, other than my own "don't cuss in Sarge's pool" filter. (And "be polite.")

      Just being goofy, is all.

    5. No one smart would ever fall for one of these spambots. Now, previous administration appointees? Again, I said, no one smart would ever fall...

I've seen them on other blogs, too, just not at mine.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
