Singing First, Again...

(Source)
Army looked very good when it mattered.

Navy couldn't quite hang with the Army.

Maybe next year...

Well done Army, well done.

That's two years in a row you got to sing second.

Again, I say well done.

Why do I, a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, son of a soldier, grandson of a soldier, root for the Navy?

Why is this the one game I won't miss?

Here's why -

Son (The Naviguessor) spent five years on active duty. Lieutenant, Surface Warfare Officer.

Oldest daughter (The Nuke) spent 11+ years on active duty, still in the Naval Reserve, Lieutenant Commander, Surface Warfare Officer (Nuclear).

Youngest daughter (The WSO) spent 11+ years on active duty, Lieutenant Commander, Naval Flight Officer. (Back seater in the Super Hornet.)

Son-in-law (Big Time) 11+ years and still on active duty, Lieutenant Commander, Naval Aviator. (Flies the Super Hornet.)

Seem like good reasons to root for the Middies.

Next year, Midshipmen, next year.

Wide left...

  1. Thanks for the post.

It's a good thing that you are retired, otherwise you would spend a lot of time at attention at family gatherings.

  2. Saw a picture titled, "Army gets camouflage right". Given the snowy field, seemed appropriate.

    1. It was pretty effective looking down on the field.

Seems that yesterday was a mountain Navy couldn't climb. Camouflaged or not!

    2. Which is why Army had no passing game - couldn't see the receivers if they were more then 5 yards away.

(which doesn't explain why Navy didn't have a passing game, but sounds good)

  3. Apparently, the Navy won the poster war, though...Quite devestatingly!

    1. Yeah, still no word on what happened to that a-hole.

    2. According to the article, he's being "investigated". I believe he confessed. Time for the punishment phase.

    3. Navy hung poster saying "NOT COMMUNIST" with the hammer & sickle subbing for the "O"..... whoooo boy....good for them.

    4. I am sure that some liberal admiral left over from the fighting purge of the last 8 years will start an investigation into which cadets were involved. At which time hopefully Mattis will use said investigation as a perfect opportunity to purge said admiral(s).

Valiant try, Navy. Valiant try. Grandfather Cone, USMC, alumni.

    1. I love those kind of games, only played in one myself, messy!

    2. Always loved watching football in adverse weather. Added something to the game, it did.

And back in the day when I did my version of 'team sports' I actively enjoyed playing in the rain, the sleet, never got to play in the snow, though.

    3. Love watching football in the snow. Played in the snow once, it quickly became mud!

  5. It was a great game, well played on both sides. One of the few games I like to watch where I don't have a favorite and I love a game played in the elements!!

  6. Ditto to Russ. It was like a good old fashion game from the fifties when a pass was a "trick" play.

    1. Funny thing, Army-Navy is the only game where I can watch a bunch of running plays and not get bored.

      Very old school.

  7. One heck of an old-time football game. Clean, hard hitting, bad weather. Who could ask for more?

My favorite photo from the game

You're right about the game, old school.

  8. Victory was also due to the Army's finally using a uniform that promoted the effective use of camouflage for the environment. Quite a game.

    1. Yeah, when the camera drew back, it looked like the Army wasn't on the field.

But boy were they ever. A great game, a classic.

  9. Did anyone else notice the absence of turnovers in that game? That was one of Army's biggest problems for years. This time it was penalties that got Navy--a field goal at that range would have been wwwaaayyyy more than a Hail Mary, even with a side order of Novenas....

    1. Players on both teams were really protecting the ball.

Easy to lose a fumble in the cold and wet, surprised no one did.

  10. Those pesky little penalties on that last run pushed the kick back too far for the Middie Kicker, so they did it to themselves unfortunately.

    1. They did indeed. Commit stupid penalties, win stupid prizes.
