Short Rations This Weekend

(Source)
Not for me, but for thee.

Posting may be light as I'm off to the northern reaches for to visit my Mother upon the occasion of her birthday.

Not sure if any of the lads will be posting, they're under no obligation to do so as they are indeed actually unpaid volunteers. I know Juvat is at sea, so to speak, Tuna is oft busy with his paying job, which sends him around the world at times, and Beans lives in the hurricane (and progressive) troubled state of Florida.

As for LUSH? Who knows? She has always been something of an independent lass. Besides, today is her birthday and I don't expect anyone to have to work on their birthday.

Happy birthday! (All together now...)

In medical news: the ophthalmologist has proclaimed himself happy with the results of the surgery he performed upon my Mark One, Mod Zero port-side optical sensor and has cleared me to return to my place of gainful employment upon Monday.

Where I shall disappoint all by only working a half day. For Monday is also the great North-South Conclave of The Chant. I've had multiple East-West summit meetings with Tuna, but this will be the first with Juvat. I've been counting the days and anticipate an epic meeting.

Rather hoping it doesn't rain that day. 'Tis been a bit damp in these parts lately, typical fall weather actually.

Oh yes, the eye. I too (heh) am pleased with the progress of said eye. The nitrogen bubble dissipates, the vision is clearing, I no longer need to wear a protective shield over it at night, and I can sleep in any position I deem most comfortable. While having to remain on my right side has not been as objectionable as having to "sleep" on my back, on my belly is what I prefer.

Twice I've had surgery in the abdominal area, requiring me to stay on my back. Damn little sleep was had, I can tell you. My natural inclination, once sound asleep, is to roll over onto my stomach. Damned painful after surgery, I'm here to tell you. On my side was tolerable, no more, thank you. Thursday evening saw a return to sleep normality.

While I was comfortable, the feline staff didn't get the memo. They grew used to me sleeping on my side, using very little of the bed. Now that I'm all sprawled out again, they seem to resent that and have let me know in no uncertain terms.

I get that, not a big fan of change myself. Very catlike I am in that aspect.

Anyhoo.

I am better, I can almost see "normally" again, and life will return to the status quo. Not sure if that's a good thing, but there you go.

Alright. I'm off then. Be seeing you.

Soon.

  3. Nitrogen..... hmmmm...... I had an opportunity to work at Kelly this week. There was the beautifully fetching B-58 on her wheels and an EF-111 on a stake that begged me to stop and oogle. I can't help but touch them and wonder where they were and what they did....

Read the tag on the 58's alighting gear, and it stated the amount of Nitrogen needed to absorb the shock of landing. So, you have that in common with the only bomber to win the Thompson Trophy.

So, does this make you a "bubble head"? :D

    2. STxAR:

Nitrogen is what the USAF uses to put into the landing struts of its aircraft. I don't remember the why of it ( if, indeed, I was told why ), but I remember pumping the stuff into them.

Safe travels and bring us photos and stories upon your return.

Happy birthdays to both your mother and LUSH.

Who is feeding the feline staff with your absence?

      Thanks for the post.

  5. Yay! LUSH is now old enough to run a keyboard legally! Yay! Hoppy Barfday two Ewe, Hoppy... yeah, ya get my point.

Glad you (OldAFS) got your spleen vented yesterday. Should help with the eye issue.

Looking forward to your after-juvat-action report (AjAR) and maybe you can get him to finally get a non-stealth avatar? Hmmmm?

  6. I'm alive, commenting on the phone though is tiresome. PLQ - Not all the staff is out of town, felines have support staff on site.

  8. Happy Birthday to 2 of the most important women in your life :)

Enjoy the drive to Vermont, hope the weather is nice enough to use your eyes (both of 'em!!!) to peep the leaves.

The feline staff is never happy with anything less than 3/4 of the bed...which is why my (4-legged)guy was banned from the bedroom, much to his displeasure after he and I transplanted to W MI. He complained, but it doesn't get him very far. Lol.

  9. Happy Birthday. Mine was the 11th. My age now equals the number of trombones leading the big parade.
Your illustration reminds me of one of my favorite sea stories (yes, "This ain't no s%$*). I as a young Midshipman on his first summer cruise was directed to check on the Brig as part of my JOOW duties.Having found the bowels of USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) I came upon said Brig, which was occupied and therefore had a Marine guard present. As I came up and assured myself that the prisoner was alive and in reasonably good health, I noticed that the Marine guard was picking the raisins out of a loaf of raisin bread. I asked the guard why he was doing that. Answer: "Sir (with the inflection meaning I was really NOT a sir)this hear prisoner is sentenced to three days bread and water. The sentence don't say nothing about no raisins". Confronted with this irrefutable knowledge, I retreated, musing upon the dangers of giving a Marine orders.

  10. I have returned to Chez Sarge, things should return to "normal" shortly.

The North South Chant Conclave occurs in less than 24 hours. Alert the Meejah.
