Travel Day

I trust you all had a pleasant Thanksgiving. I hope you were able to spend it with family, friends, and loved ones.

Remember, if you should despair, we are the descendants of Abraham...
The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” Genesis 22:15-18 (NIV)
Have a nice weekend.

I might post, I might not, as the mood strikes me. As you might discern, I've been a bit pensive as of late.

We shall see where this leads.

Patience...

  1. Having survived the food onslaught yesterday there is no intent to brave any brick & mortar address today. With a high of 47 forecast a visit to the range is in order, time for some gunpowder therapy.......Winter is Coming! Hang in there Sarge.

    2. Had a pleasant day in the frigid north, survived the food onslaught, barely.

And yes, Nylon12, Winter kommt, in some parts of New England it's here. But thank the Lord, it has spared Little Rhody thus far, other than one snowy night and a couple of sub-20 days. But it's all good.

    4. Current research is heading towards a serious solar minimum, as bad or worse than the one that froze out the Greenland settlements, a serious Ice Age, a bad mini- or a midi-ice age.

Brrrr. Glad I live in Florida.

  2. "Pensive". Indeed.

Could it be that as we ummm... "mature", and become increasingly aware that we are, in fact mortal, we also become more aware of what truly matters, and what doesn't? The KISS principle has increasing appeal. So does the line delivered by Jon Voight in the movie "Pear Harbor"--"I like sub commanders. They don't have time for bull$-it, and neither do I".

You spend your time to provide free ice cream here, for which we are all in your debt. You owe us nothing. Now go outside and take in that sea breeze, and check your compass. You know, the one like Captain Jack Sparrow's, that does not point true north, but to what you truly want. Wander by when you feel like it. We'll keep the light on.

    1. Au contraire, brother RHT447, I owe you folks my sanity, what little there is left of it.

My brother and I spoke of this just this morning, I write because it's part of who I am now. I cannae change that, nor would I want to.

But yeah, as I age there are days where the curmudgeon flag flies high and the sarcasm runs deep. Then I'll see a picture of one of the kids or the grands and get all sentimental.

I go with the winds and the tides of life, letting them take me where they will, my compass points to God, always.

  3. Take all the time you need/want; when you are ready to return, the hard core of us will be here to read what you post.

    Thanks for the post.

  4. I've notice my perspective on life has changed radically over the last few years, and even more since we moved here last year.

At times I feel invigorated and proud to have met the Young Folks here, and see them all busily running their businesses and lives, having kids, and being pretty damn close to a real-time flashback of my youth in Northern Illinois.

And at other times I get seriously offended by the stupidity-at-large I see in the Big Cities amongst those "Yutes", and realize I'm much more of a 'rural' guy than a 'city' guy.

But then I see the grandkids, and the grandkids friends and their parents, and I feel all OK again.

The pendulum swings, my friend, and yours will swing back out of the pensiveness.
