I'll throw a topic out there and let y'all chew the fat on it while I entertain the progeny of my progeny.
In the United States, the term "deep state" is used to describe a conspiracy theory which suggests that collusion and cronyism exists within the US political system and constitutes a hidden government within the legitimately elected government. Some people believe that there is "a hybrid association of elements of government and parts of top-level finance and industry that is effectively able to govern the United States without reference to the consent of the governed as expressed through the formal political process", whereas others consider the deep state to encompass corruption that is particularly prevalent amongst career politicians and civil servants. Lois Lerner et al. with the IRS targeting controversy. Peter Strzok and Lisa Page at the FBI. ATF gunwalking scandal. Clinton e-mail server and Mueller investigation. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

ReplyDeleteEpstein investigation seems to be soft-pedaled... Is it because 99% of those who moved in his circle were major Demo operatives (Hey, Bill, looking at you, man)? (Hey, Bill, where DID all that Haitian relief money go???) How about a Texas rep that is sending staff (at my expense) into Mexico to advise invaders on how to game the immigration system? Why wasn't she arrested the second that was revealed?
Clapper, Comey, Brennan, Meuller.... all of them ran some part of the "insurance policy". And they are still getting pay from major media for their take on events. Or their retirement from .gov
Gotta go do some yard work to relax now....

It exists in Government, it exists in corporations...it is hard to root out some bureaucrats and they take on a shadow power.

DeleteJust finished a re-read of Stephen Coonts "Liberty's Last Stand", a plausible accounting of the ills that plague our beautiful country even today. Yep, I'm thinking not a theory but status quo.

DeleteI’m not sure if it’s a “conspiracy” or just that a subset of our political class and bureaucracy share the same set of assumptions and values, and act accordingly, independently.
ReplyDeleteWhich sure looks like a conspiracy from the outside, even though the “members” of the conspiracy aren’t talking to each other about it (i.e. “conspiring).
I guess my interpetation is that it follows the terrorist cell model, where small, independent groups are animated by the same core beliefs, but are separated from each other, just waiting for the go signal from on high. Like a constant barrage of “orangemanbad” news stories.
You do pretty quickly wind up thinking that half the country, including vast swaths of certain industries (“news”), is part of the conspiracy, though.
I do like the comparison to terrorist cells. Apt in more ways than one.

ReplyDeleteYes I believe that it is real, when you have career bureaucrats that believe that they can govern better than the people they are suppose to serve, this shows arrogance on a grand scale. They believe that they working with certain people in the private sector provide stability and guidance to the "Great unwashed". They hate Trump because he represents chaos and that goes against the stability that the bureaucrats like and that they can predict.
One of the reasons I like the President is that they hate him so much.

DeleteHe's doing his job, but I'm starting to think that other than the economy and some attempts at diplomacy, he isn't really able to do much more. I haven't seen any swamp draining and there haven't been any serious investigations into the Clinton Foundation, the State Dept., the IRS, etc. I'm also not enamored over his budget- zero cutting, no pushing congress (under the GOP or DNC) to reduce the size of the deficit, make corrections to Social Security, etc. I'd give him a B minus so far, but even with the economy, I expect more. I don't know if it's because the deepstaters won't let him, or if he isn't willing to try.

Concur with y'all, as usual - I'm just hoping that this can be resolved by peaceful means - and by "resolved", I mean the leaders put in prison, losing their pensions and getting heavy fines - all as a warning to others that are lower in the ranks that this sort of crap won't be tolerated and has real consequences. This would include the violent thugs on the left like Antifa. If that doesn't happen, I am concerned it may be resolved thru ballistic means, which would be really ugly.
