Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

Side effects

Most common side effects

In the arm where you got the shot:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Redness

Throughout the rest of your body:

  • Chills
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
Got my first shot Monday at 1730. Woke up in the morning, felt like an angry horse had kicked the arm where the injection went in. Otherwise, I felt fine.

Round about 1500, I felt like ten miles of bad road.

Got home, felt like excrement. Took my temperature, 99.6°. Meh, felt the chills, not too bad. But man, the aches and pains! Took Advil for those aches and pains.

Word on the street is that this usually happens with the second shot. Of course none of the learned scholars mentioned anything about having had Covid-19, then getting the shot. I had the ailment end of January, a rather mild case. So in some ways, my first shot is my second exposure to this thing.

I get the second one in April. Can't hardly wait.

So yeah...

Going to work on Thursday is what my old buddy Jim Gilletti would have called, "A game time decision."

Stay tuned.

    2. Sterility? Really? The vaccine has not been out very long, I'd think that pronouncement would take a little time to find out if it really does...

I'm good with that, although there's a lot the CC could be talking loudly about in the handling of this plague that they've been notably silent about. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new rules for Mass are since Gov Abbot opened everything to 100%. Individual entities could set their own "rules" as they see fit.

    1. A though struck me this morning, we were attacked on 9/11, nearly 3,000 Americans died. And we've been fighting effing goat herders for 20 years.

Allegedly this virus has killed half a million Americans. Yet China skates...

      Delete
    2. Yeah, goat herders aren't able to pay off our politicians like the CCP can ...

      Delete
    3. Well, the CDCs last report on death tolls a while ago said that only 6% of the 'DEAD BY COVID' were actually, well, deaths by COVID directly. The other 94% were deaths with COVID antibodies present. There is a vast difference. Basically most places are counting any death with COVID antibodies as a COVID death, thus the famous motorcycle beheading that apparently was caused by COVID.

So now, if you fall out of a plane while being stabbed and fall into a working chipper shredder while suffering from Type 2 Diabetes, your death is due to Diabetes? That's basically the reporting pattern for COVID deaths.

And, survey says, the reason for this? Hospitals get paid more federal monies for COVID deaths than regular deaths.

Not saying COVID is a scam, but what has been done to report COVID deaths is.

Florida fired, then arrested the person who was tabulating Florida's COVID Death Roll, for falsifying and destroying records in order to make Florida look far worse than it was.

      So... Yeah...

    4. Not only that, not many opium goat herders had complete control of what looks like 1/2 of Congress. In fact, it looked like 0% of OGHs had any control in Congress.

On the other hand, Xi and the CCP have obviously full control over at least 1/2 of Congress, with ties to a good portion of the Federal bureaucracy, so...

I do remember San Fran Nan standing in Chinatown during the 2020 Lunar New Year celebrations saying that it was safe for people to party with the Chinese, many whom had escaped ChiCom to come here for better medical treatment. Seems that the MSM has forgotten or memory holed that particular moment of stupidity. Funny, weeks later after Impeachment #3 failed in the Senate, now San Fran Nan came out against the COVID.

  9. My daughter and son-in-law have both had the mRNA vaccine. They are both in medically related professions, RN and Paramedic. They were told that if you had had COVID-19 and have anti-bodies in your system the first shot would cause a strong reaction. While my SIL was never diagnosed with the virus though he had symptoms and was tested numerous times, he had a strong reaction to the first shot. My daughter experinced essentially no symptoms with the first shot but had some with the second shot. I think that is the cause of your issues OldAFSarg.

As to the possible spotaneous miscarriages associated with taking the mRNA vaccine, I would posit that the trials did not test pregnant women for fear of that possibility with ensuing law suites. Without having researched it, what are the risks on pregnancy with other ant-viral treatments? Unfortunately as with most drugs, the clinical trials are focused on only certain side effects. In use other side effects are often found with drugs. Levaquin has been found to cause weight loss which happened to me. Also the neurological side effects are not tested for in clinical trials, just the efficacy and physical side effects; I know about this first hand. Therefore, I have to conclude as with any medication, the individual use is something of an experiment on that person as the primary efficacy may work and the particular side effects are unknown.

    1. One of the screening questions from the state of RI was "Are you pregnant or think you might be" So they were asking. I think they do tht with the flu shot as well.

    2. Well...Sarge, are you or might you? In this day and age, one is not allowed to make assumptions of gender or based on assumed gender or the gender one is born with or the gender one feels like assuming at that moment in time.

Times were a helluva lot simpler when we were growing up.

    3. Yup, back then the science was real.

  10. All vaccines and drugs have negative side effects, some of which are caught early, some of which are not evident for a long time. Having worked with most all the big vaccine manufacturers and the FDA and CDC supplying them with chemical analysis instruments, I am more than a bit leery about this 'vaccine'. I think mRNA based therapies show great promise, not only for viral infections but other maladies, but I would really like to see more studies on their long term effects.

  15. So... You had COVID. Why did you need to get the vaccine that's only effective for 2 months after you get it? (that's a hit on the reasoning behind the vaccines, not you.)

Yeah, no. I shall remain vaccine-less on this one. The science behind all of it is way too shady for to me to put my life on the line for it. Or my wife's life.

No. I am not an anti-vaccer. Please, for the Love of God, make sure my Diptheria, Cholera, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and other common ickies shots are up to date. Seen and read about the extreme number of deaths and injuries from those. Heck, have family ancestors with deaths linked to many of those. Funny, after the vaccines for them came out, deaths died off to Zero.

    But this?

    Nope. Ain't going there.

Wife and I have both been hit by what we assume was Der Covid early on before all the testing was available. And for the most part we self isolate.

Glad you're on the mend. You shoulda taken the day off.

  16. From a UK perspective I have the following to add. The wife and I had our shots yesterday (Astra Zeneca). The whole procedure was well run and efficient. We both got our letters from the NHS last Thursday so I booked on line for both of us. It was a very simple and, dare I say it, efficient procedure. We also booked our second jabs for May at the same time we booked the first. Our centre was a sports hall and we were in and out in under half an hour. At the moment our arms ache at the injection site and both feel hot. Not too bad really.
Our next door neighbour is a semi-retired obstetrician. She is of Indian origin and has been going into work throughout. It's been noted over here that BAME (Black and minority ethnic to use the current UK approved term) have been disproportionately affected by the virus. Her unit works a covid free policy, which means tests for everyone coming in, no visits and partner presence during birth drastically reduced, she has escaped but everyday hospital work has reduced as other wards have been turned into ICU's and HDU's. These require a lot of staffing and doctors from other specialties have been called in to work in ICU.
My eldest son is a doctor in the west of England, he has had completely re organise how he works but where he is seems to have escaped the worst. The disease is very much hitting urban areas harder than rural areas here.
My take on this is that the disease is with us for a while. Annual jabs will be a thing and I suspect you won't be able to get into some countries or fly without proof of vaccination.

  17. I'm with Beans....no thank you.

I did get the two shingles shots last year, though. First one was "just a shot", with very minor redness and swelling, but the second shot clobbered me. BIG raised, tender place on the arm that was a couple of days coming, and a couple of days going.

My Doctor had me come in, she looked at it, and said it was a strong reaction, but nothing to worry about unless my breathing became difficult. In that case, call 911, or get to the ER, stat.

    1. I'm with the both of you on the wuflu vax. Mrs J is trying to talk me into the shingles vax. I'm wavering but will probably capitulate. What I've heard about getting shingles disturbs me. However being on a rapid deployment team for most of the third world, I've been vaxinated for more diseases that I didn't even know existed before being stuck. Having a gamma blobulin bump on your butt before riding on a C-6 for 19 hours only to get diverted to Singapore because the country we were deploying to help turned us down was "Pretty Spiffy". That country sorta sounds like bang a dish. After a restorative Singapore Sling, I decided it was probably for the best. I wasn't all that enthused to see dead drowned bodies in great numbers that had been sitting in Tropic sun for several days. If you know what I mean.

  19. No horses were involved in my arm pain after Shot #2, but Mike Tyson may have punched me there. Every time I rolled over in bed, I woke up due to the pain. Fortunately I was good to go around the 48hr mark. Unfortunately only about half of Sailors are accepting the vaccine. Are dependents getting the shot out in Lemoore?

  20. Sounds like you had the typical second shot reaction with your first. Since you already had COVID it really is your second shot. I've seen recommendations that those who have had the virus only need one shot of the vax, so you may be done. Seek qualified advice. My first shot produced no more that a bit of a sore arm for a couple days. Got #2 at 1100 today. We shall see what happens next.
