Sasha is still hanging on, feisty but weak. The kitty is a real trooper.
Now, back to vacation.
Oh yeah, hit up Barnes & Noble, added four more books to the stack of the unread. BTW Virgil, I did receive the book The Indians of New Jersey: Dickon Among the Lenapes by M. R. Harrington. It's next on the stack I think.

DeleteGood photo. One day the kid will look back on this photo as one of his earliest memories. Best wishes for the cat; they sort of grow on one over the years as a member of the household. As far as books, I just finished "Neptune's Inferno, The US Navy at Guadalcanal" by Hornfischer (author of "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors"). Excellent book; as much as I've read I did not realize how close run it was for the Navy at Guadalcanal or how large the number of their casualties. Just started "Twilight of the Gods, War in the Western Pacific 1944-45" by Toll; early portion dealing with the high-level politics. Then I, as you, move on to the next stack of books...

We achieved 'victory' naval-wise by smashing ourselves repeatedly upon the fist of the IJN. We kind of wore them out. There were many times that, if they pushed harder, they might have won. At least, from what I've read. Such was the truth of the early war all over the Pacific.
DeleteBarry - Make sure you read his The Fleet at Flood Tide, the third work in his Pacific War trilogy. I'm still in shock over his death, far too young. We lost a great talent there.
DeleteMy only quibble with Toll's trilogy is that the man is far too enamored of the word "offing." Never seen it used so much. I mean he uses it correctly but...
Still an excellent trilogy (I read it earlier this year.)
Beans - In the early fights around Guadalcanal, sure. But Midway was a disaster for the Japanese. As was nearly every naval battle after that. We had the bigger fist by far after '43.

The grandkids love the pond, he's a little too young to really grasp it but he seems to revel in the entire backyard.
The handsome young man has intelligent, perceptive eyes. Gonna make the ladies work for it, he is!
