Not Good

It's pretty here at night from the 27th floor. I'm changing hotels tomorrow, the next one is quite a bit shorter, smaller too. Had to leave my regular place as some big to-do is in town and the place was flooded with suits, evening gowns, and big black SUVs outside. You'd think the Feds were in town or something.

So I have to move on, not a problem, the rest of the crew is already over at the other place. And the breakfast over there is pretty good I'm told.

And it's free.

I like free.

Anyhoo, work has been painful this week, some minor successes, a lot of "What the f**k just happened?" moments. We have limited time to figure it out. It's kinda embarrassing I tell you.

I think this video describes how it feels ...

Yup.  Painful.

Did I mention how pretty it is at night?

Sigh ...

I suppose one could say, "at least it can't get much worse."

Some days you get the bear ...

... Some days the bear gets you.

Yeah, it's like that.

  2. Did see there's a wine & food festival going on through Sunday downtown. Good luck straightening those kinks, how many more days do you get a chance at those free breakfasts Sarge?

  3. Hope the WTF moments get less and less - but better to have them now than sailors having them later...

  4. Well, unlike our hapless own goalie, keep your eye on the ball.

I feel for you. I've been in situations 'like' that (but not on the scale your are working at). I usually volunteer to make it right, too. Especially if they are looking at me like I was involved. Fix the problem not the blame is one of my personal rules.

    Good luck and good hunting!

    1. Lots of blame to go around, mostly poor management and piss poor communication.

  5. Sarge - In my own experience, I have found that the closer one gets to the "finish line", the more these things seem to occur - mostly because of the fact that X months ago, when the issue was raised, the instruction was "push through, and we will fix it when we get to the end". In point of fact, these things almost never get fixed until the end. In the back of a lot of minds is the unspoken thought "We told you so..."

Free breakfasts are always good. Although some are better than others. For myself, as long as the coffee is reasonable and they have oatmeal and yogurt, I am good to go.

  6. I haven't gotten anyone lately, so it weren't me!

Mostly it's been like this. (To continue the theme)

  7. "Fix it at the end" means "We'll get another contract to pretend to fix it." Fsck'n dishonest is what it is.

Free breakfast can be good. Eggs (hard boiled are almost always available), sometimes sausage or bacon, milk, ... the pre-keto days of waffles, pancakes, pastries, cereals, most fruits and yogurts were years ago ... good black coffee.

There's a new blood test coming that shows you're at risk for diabetes type 2 19 years before your blood sugar readings show it. A warning to fix diet, exercise, and waist fat early.

  8. I passed the ball back to the goalie when playing soccer in 8th grade. Of course he was not expecting it and GOAL! Felt like crap for a long time.

Many years later I'm watching a local girls soccer game and the fullback sends a lazy pass back to her goalie. She never saw the other teams center and ended up making the perfect pass to him instead. He just redirected the ball into the net for a goal. I felt her pain after 30 years.

    Management's fault? Never!

That's usually what's said, just before my Guardian Angel says "Hold my beer!"

    Just sayin'

  11. It could be worse, and I could be a male reproductive unit by listing them, but you're in deep suckage as it is, so I'll be nice.

Hope your remaining days trapped behind enemy lines and being assaulted by terminal stupidity and random chaos will soon be over.

Just one question. Could any of this farcical attempt at doing one's job have been able to be done from back home? If so, and there's an after-action meeting (where nobody gets their heads bit off) you could always point it out.

Stay sane-ish. We need you sane-ish and alive.

  12. BTDT, and hang in there, Sarge!

One project I was on took two years, and then failed in orbit because some goober left a plastic cap on a vent line. Found it in the close-out pix, and marveled at the dunce that signed it off....

  14. Based on my experience, I will strongly advise against standing under the lube oil tank vent while advising another shipyard worker that standing under the lube oil tank vent is a bad idea when filling the tank.
Did you know that under the right (wrong) circumstance a deluge of warm 2190 TEP oil will soak through your coveralls, your clothing, and you will find your wallet is filled with oil soaked paper money.

    Just saying.

  15. Maybe it was some evil spirit running amok today?

    Sun spots or something??

My patient schedule changed 8 times today between 8am and 2:30pm...and my boss was calling me like every half hour to either ask how it was going (had I gotten the most recent snafu unsnarled) or to tell me about another new one she wanted me to fix.
Plus it monsoon-ed here today and I got drenched twice... I am glad tomorrow I have Grammy duty.

So I'm going with sun spots is the cause of Murphy going wild this week.

  16. Our cargo airline pilots group selected hotels based mainly on their breakfast buffets. Sometimes they’d be 30 minutes from the airport. Better to shorten the true crew rest time than not have a full free breakfast that didn’t count against per diem money. I’d say the Regal Airport Hotel in Hong Kong, the Leila Kimpensky in Bombay and Hyatt Regency in Bishkek were real standouts. Not just full American breakfasts but European and Asian entrees as well. No wonder the crews huffed and puffed with their bag drag

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
