Break, Break

I decided to take a break from the book, just today from the looks of it. What with the playoffs on TV, a new season of Ozark, and another episode of The Book of Boba Fett to watch, I find my time for writing to be somewhat constrained this weekend. Alas, even the mighty Sarge needs a break now and again.

It's been a pretty cold January so far here in Little Rhody, teens and the like. What with the wind coming off the bay, I rather wish we had a fireplace like that in the opening photo. That's The Nuke and Tuttle's fireplace down Maryland way. Spent many a cozy evening in front of that one. Something comforting and atavistic about sitting in front of a fire on a cold winter's eve.

We've had a whiff of snow here and there, but it's been fairly dry. Just cold and windy.

I made mention of the vet being concerned about Anya's small weight loss, blood work came back in the clear, no medical stuff going on, the girl has always been a bit on the skinny side. But she wears it well.

Anya is in fine fettle, as am I, though both of us can attest to the fact that growing old ain't for the faint of heart. Every day seems to start with the "Check Engine" light on, but once I get up and get moving, everything starts running smoothly.

After a fashion.

Anyhoo, just a short post, have a good Sunday, I'll "see" you on Tuesday.

Anya and I say "Ciao!"

Well, in her case I guess it would be "Miao!"

  1. Pretty kitty! Prayers up for her continued good health and yours too.

  2. Glad everything with Anya is good to go. And I can identify with the creaks and groans when you get up to move. Glad they resolve for us both after we get going, but I assume one day they won't... sigh.

  3. Sarge, also very glad that Anya is doing well. May she continue to fill your life for years to come.

It is not so much the check engine light that bothers me, it is the recall notices and fact I know that the original parts are no longer available that gives me concern.

What do you think of The Book of Boba Fett? So well I am fairly underwhelmed. Somehow the character shift from "Most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy" to "I will rule with respect" was clunkily done at best (As if this somehow applies to a protection racket, Disney? We are talking about a protection racket, backed up by force.). And do not get me started on the rather culturally insensitive and historically inaccurate use of the word "Daimyo"...

    1. Yes, it's Hollywood, that bar is set very low. But I do like the story.

      Thanks TB.

    2. Boba Fett. It meets our admittedly low bar of being entertaining, and we will stick with for a while. I want to find where it goes now that Boba seems to realize it's much harder to rule well and wisely than it is to kill.

Good news about Anya, and as the person who sat on the tack said, Yiao.

  4. Your muse gets her Sabbath, y'know; she follows the 4th, but please don't let her get in the habit of taking extended vacations. Meanwhile, I think the pair of you are doing a great job while the rest of us are sitting here waiting (with tongues hanging out) to find out what's happening to the guys (both sides) in Poland.
    TNX.

  5. I have some great memories of doing nothing but sitting in front of the fire on a cold winter night. Keep warm!

  6. I miss having a fireplace. But I don't miss all the other things dealing with it, cleaning, stocking, etc. Oh, well.

Glad to see you enjoying the finer things of life. You and yours need it. Been a long year already.

  7. Ah, enjoy life, don't be a slave to your spoiled readers begging for more. We'll still be here when the muse sobers up or whatever and gets back to work.
Good news on Anya, but how about that tooth?

Like your candle- just like ours!

    1. Ah yes, the tooth. Permanent crown is in place, all is well on that front as well.

    2. (Don McCollor)...Ah yes! As a child of twelve (or younger) in pulled easy chair by the potbelly stove in the living room. Kitchen chair supporting bare feet close to the stove basking in the warmth. Oblivious on a cold winter day being aboard the Nautilus reading "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Still have the same book tattered and falling apart. Read it again every few years. Brings back warm memories..

  8. The open fire is nice but it is easier to brew a hot toddy on a wood stove. Burning wood was our only heat source for the first 22 years of married life. Put one of those blue graniteware coffee boilers with sweet cider in it on the stove. When it starts to steam pour some into a large coffee mug then add a generous amount of dark rum (151 proof) . Don't add the rum while the cider is still on the heat as the alcohol will evaporate before it is consumed. Two of those and it doesn't matter what the outside temperature is, just don't go out there. Old Guns

  9. Glad to hear Anya checks out ok!!

I was getting a bit paranoid on Wednesday evening as I was calling my patients to schedule for the next day and 2 in a row reported that they had had to have their beloved dog put down that day...so I was thinking "oh no!! Is this like with people?? Do Critters go in three's?? Who else do I know that has a very mature puppy dog, or other critter with health issues??"...messaged the owner of one I thought of right away who is dealing with cancer, the owner is a long time friend, just to check in and Maggie is doing well, bouncing around like nothing's wrong with being 10 years old.

Cats obviously are a tougher breed as they tend to live so much longer. :)

Yes, a certain amount of rust seems to set in over night, especially in the hip, knee, and back joints, but so far, it resolves rapidly with a stretch or two, and a quick-step to the bathroom.

    1. Stretching, what was once needed before exercising is now needed to just get up and move around!

      Thanks Suz.

  10. I was busy doing the exact same thing this past weekend, for going my ban on pro football during the playoffs. I haven't caught up on the first episode of Ozark yet, but did catch the boba Fett episode. It's a fun show, a space Western.

    1. I agree, not to be taken seriously, just enjoy.

Ozark, I binge-watched, holy crap, highly recommend it!

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
