Post? What Post?

IL-2 Sturmovik: Tank Crew – Clash at Prokhorovka
In Game Screen Shot
(Source)
As you may gather, I'm still playing with the new toy. This beast -

This is for Beans, who doubted the very existence of the new machine!
As the French knight might say ...

And yes, yes it is.

Porting stuff from old machine to new machine, getting cables and the like to connect old VGA type monitor plug to jolly-good new technology HDMI port on the new machine and other things. Still trying to figure out why my speaker system doesn't work with the new machine. I'll get there, I probably forgot to plug something in.

What's that? The opening screen shot? Oh yes, newest game there, pricey but oh-my-soul you're right there inside the tank. (Yes, yes juvat, hiding from airplanes and other tanks, life on the Eastern Front most certainly was nasty, brutish, and short.)

So you may gather that I was a bit busy on Friday, not to mention taking The Missus Herself out for a nice late lunch/early dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. We both had the ribeye and the loaded baked potato. I also had a bowl of shrimp and lobster chowder (or chowda as it's said round these parts). First time I had my steak "medium," I used to get it "medium well."

No more, apparently I've been eating saddle leather all these years. Medium was, let's just say, more juicy than The Missus Herself cares for. Me?

Yum, juicy.

Yes, you should chase this link and read the story. Lions eat poacher. It's a very nice ...
Yes, it suited me fine, I shall do it that way from now on.

Anyhoo, something you all should know, all of these military simulations I like to play, I get lots of ideas from them. Ideas you get to read second hand, somewhat translated to fit the story I'm trying to tell.

Anyhoo, Horst tells me that the engine in our Tiger is starting to overheat and the battalion commander is screaming at us to advance.

Hope we have some air cover this time ...

Back to the book soon, I hope. The Muse is enjoying this new computer nearly as much as I!

  1. Amazing the results those chips can provide nowadays, eh? Have fun recognizing the capabilities of your new machine and Heads Up! out there on the Steppe Sarge.

  2. Whenever I had problems with a new pc's audio, I'd update the driver. It was ALWAYS the driver. I never have that problem with Linux pc's. But Windows pc's... driver issues ad infinitum. Have fun storming the castle! Go forth and conquer!!

    1. Yup, could be, the transition from older computer before to the (now) old computer speaker-wise was seamless. But we'll see.

  3. Happy for you and your new machine. Don’t let it take you away from your life’s work (which is entertaining us out here).
Medium? Good for you. Otherwise, no comment. I like you.

    3. Yes, the "new" Google, making everyone miserable. Wait, that was the "old" Google as well. Functional, useful, yet painful. (And getting less useful all the time.)

  4. Glad you're starting to get more civilized vis a vis Steak. Medium Rare, my friend, Medium Rare. Erring on the Rare side if necessary.

Have yet to find a computer game dealing with flying fighters that was worth a darn. Would be happy to hear any suggestions.

    1. IL-2 Sturmovik. It's WWII, it just "feels" right. Looks pretty good as well. Doing tanks is a new thing, since the very first version it's been aircraft. Want to fly an Me-109/Zero/Corsair/Mustang/etc.? This is the game for you. You do need a good flight control system and setting that up takes some time to get it as you like it. But it's pretty doggone good. I highly recommend it. It's been around since 2001. When it first came out the graphics were really good, they keep getting better. IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 combines all the early games, lots of fun. Check it out here.

    3. OMG yes! (Now to convince The Missus Herself that I need this, not sure where I'd put it, but I need it!)

  5. Medium rare, and a good bread to soak up the juices. Yum.

There's a flight-simulation chair out there that plugs into your computer and does the moving-the-chair in response to moving in your game. Doubt TMH will go for it...

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
