Behind the Scenes (Again?)

Afrika Korps Kübelwagen
(Source)
So here it is, Sunday already. Saturday was a bit of a trial, Blogger was misbehaving badly. No doubt some bright boy (or girl, but probably boy, women are so much more practical), has futzed something up under the hood.

I could post my normal post link to MeWe, got the link, got the leading photo and everything. On Failbook, just a generic link to the blog. No picture.

Commenting and answering comments was ridiculously annoying. Post a comment, then wait five minutes for the comment to actually post. I don't know why Gulag insists on "improving" things. An old adage in engineering is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Gulag/Gargle/Google seems to ignore that lesson at every turn. I wonder if they've been bought out by a defense contractor? (It certainly feels that way.)

Anyhoo ...

So most of you no doubt noticed that we bounced from the Eastern Front and Heeresgruppe Nord, all the way down to the Gazala front and Panzerarmee Afrika (of which the Afrika Korps was a key component). Well, I introduced a slew of new characters in order to tell the backstories of the old characters. Yes, "carried away" is another way of putting that.

My plan is to stay on one front for a while, keep that story thread moving along, then shift to another front. Unlike Monty's pencil-like thrust, I intend to move forward on a broad front. If it gets confusing, just check the label at the bottom of the post. It will tell you the year and the front, sometimes the character being covered.

By the way, if you click on the label, it will bring up all of the posts with the same label. It helps me keep track of things as well. As in, "Hhmm what was the last post in this thread?"

This thing, if it's blue, it's a link.
So that's where we're at for the moment. I need to regroup and rethink. (Fancy way of saying, "I'm taking a day off.")

Be seeing you ...

  1. Response is slow this morning, yet my Internet provider is paid up, go figure. Thanks for the info Sarge, taking a day off is a good reason to laager up.

  2. Regroup, aye Sarge. The entire intarwebz is pretty hosed. Happenstance? Coincidence? Enemy Action? All of the above?
Dress your lines, improve your fighting position and bring up ammo and water...
Oh and send the Muse to the beach with some tropical drinks while the season lasts...
    We'll be here

    1. It might be time to go all 1775 on someone's ass. I don't like the signs and portents out here.

      Tropical drinks, aye!

    2. The "signs and portents" ARE all there. BUT. They gotta shoot first (and yeah, they have; RIP Ashli). I'm afraid they will.

  3. Ugh. I have read of these issues as well Sarge. "Helpful" is really not all that helpful sometimes.

On the bright side, as Boat Guy says, more Whiskey and Fresh Horses then?

  4. FYI, the labels don't show up on "mobile view". (I usually read your stories on my phone before I get out of bed.)

  5. The internet (well "my" internet anyway) has been slow since yesterday. Speed test says I have a good connection, the virus scans come up clean.
FWIW this morning I got lost in the header picture "source"... that doesn't have much to do with anything but me :-)
    Enjoy the day!

  7. Worked for a defense contractor for over 12 years. We weren't the ones making changes. It was the government engineers that couldn't leave well enough alone. They always had to be changing something in order to justify their existence. Heaven help you if several of them got together with each other. We were building things that had worked just fine for over 50 years and still worked just fine, but they had to change tolerances, test procedures, and other piddling specifications just so they could say that they were doing something. I think there must be something in the water at Picatinny Arsenal that makes people lose any common sense that they may have previously had.

    1. Been at it myself for 23, it's not just the gubmint doing stupid things. We have far too many "managers" whose sole occupation is justifying their own positions.

    2. Thankfully the defense contractor I worked for was a small family owned company at the time. The company I went to afterward had the too many managers issue. I retired just in time.

    3. Not me, one of the top ones is where I work. Management on top of management. Spreadsheets and Earned Value out the wazoo!

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
