Man of Action

(Source)
Saturday was another fast-paced day in the life of an international man of mystery.

Not sure what that guy was doing, but I did laundry. Four loads, no kidding.

I could have gone another three or four days, I wasn't down to "situation critical, wear the really old underwear" just yet. I decided to nip that situation in the bud.

Not to mention which, I have two new shirts which I haven't worn yet, just got them from Amazon on Thursday. I seem to recall from somewhere that it's "best practice" to wash that stuff before wearing it for the first time.

Oh yes, now I remember, The Missus Herself told me that.

She is still forward deployed to Maryland, in the midst of Operation New Grandson and probably will be for another few weeks until things settle down.

At least this time The Nuke gets maternity leave, she didn't when Buzz was born. Good thing too, the gubmint was working her like a rented mule in the past few months. I guess that's why she makes the "big bucks." Unlike some government employees, she actually earns her pay.

So yeah, laundry, I did laundry and hung out with my girl Anya. She's getting up there in age and is slowing down a lot, but she's still good company.

Even if she does make me get up in the middle of the night to turn on the faucet in the tub when she's thirsty.

I can only hope someone does that for me when I get old. Er, older.

Oh yeah, Boat Guy mentioned this band a while back, I gave them a listen. Was not disappointed. The Corrs, an Irish band dontcha know?

I will be listening to more of their music, it touches something in me.

Be seeing you.

  1. Not done the Skid Marks On The Outside routine? That extends the pause between washing days.

  2. Finally! Something in Common and a 1 Up!

Laundry is my inherited chore since retirement. The laundry room is right next door to my "office" and hence I hear the various alarms going off. It is within, barely, my technological skill set to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer, turn the dryer on, reload the washer and re-engage. Quite literally, rinse and repeat until complete. With the addition of the bambino and need for frequent changes of clothing as she epresses her displeasure on various medifications by returning her meal, this has absorbed a larger portion of my life. Boredom when retired? Not a chance. Long hours in the woodshop? Well....frequent short visits maybe.
    Proud to serve? You bet!

As to the second...You've just learned about the Corrs???? YGBSM! Been listening to them for years Okinawa anyhow. Love 'em! Welcome to the fan club.

    1. I have to go from my office on the second floor down to the basement to do laundry. I need the exercise.

As to The Corrs, well, I've lead a sheltered life ... 🙄

  3. Like you the laundry room requires a walk downstairs and so a wee bit of exercise and there is enough space to hang several lines for the wash to dry out on, nice in late Fall, Winter and early Spring.

    1. Also have a clothesline outside, hard to beat that fresh air dried smell!

  4. Sarge, the Laundry is a great difference in how it is done between The Ravishing Mrs. TB and myself. Apparently "separating everything in different piles based on colors versus whites" is considered a "thing" (except the red items, I get that)...It has been recommended that if I am going to help with laundry, I just do my own.

    1. I remember a time in the Air Force when all of my clothes went into the wash at once with no regard to color, fabric, what-have-you, my sergeant wanted to know why I had taken to wearing gray t-shirts. I assured him that they were white, or had started life that way.

    2. Don't have a washer & drier. The local Cafe/Grocery store has a miniature laundromat in the back (2 washers, 2 driers and 3 blocks away). Get there early in the morning, start the washers, then go to the Cafe for breakfast. Then shift clothes to driers and go back to the Cafe to drink coffee and discuss momentous events of the day with the other regulars until the clothes are dry (have the washers & driers timed to a nicety).

  5. If I walk into the laundry room and attempt to load the washer, "Lipstick 6" somehow magically appears and takes over, usually mumbling something about my lacking ability to sort the laundry properly...heck, it's been years since I turned the whites to pink but she hasn't forgotten.
Speaking of clothes lines, I have covered porches 8' wide surrounding the home so I put up several lines of paracord at one end and that is where we hang the laundry. Literally walk out the sliding door and down the porch. Since we're in the country no need to worry about HOA busybodies. When the temperatures are in the triple digits here it really helps to keep the heat down in the house by not running the dryer.

    1. Ah, HOA busybodies, of those we have none. I daresay that I won't live anywhere like that. Too much trouble.

  6. I'm beginning to realize that most folks don't have a Magic Laundry Hole.

If I open the linen closet in the bathroom and look down I see what looks like a small trash can with no bottom. I've discovered that if I throw my soiled clothing into this container, the opening in the bottom is really a Magic Laundry Hole, and after passing through the Magic Laundry Hole the clothing will return to the drawers or closets and each and every item will be freshly washed and cleaned.

I have also discovered that if I leave clothing in its logical place, flat on the floor, the clothing will remain there from now until the end of all time.

My concern is that any investigation on my part of this phenomena will destroy the Magic.

Oddly, the kitchen sink sort of works the same way but the dirty dishes get transported to the dishwasher.

    1. You have one of those? I've heard of them, awesome indeed.

  7. I bought a stacked Speed Queen unit that had seen military service somewhere. I really liked it. Then it decided to poop the bed (much like the Littlest Juvat). I found they sell commercial duty washers for a bit less than the super neato double throwdown front loaders. That thing works the dirt out every time. I've been hanging things on the line since I was able to reach the wire. I strung one up here a several years ago when it became my job. Last summer, it only took an hour of sunshine to dry clothes crispy dry. Even jeans took less than two hours. During the winter, I just have to watch for a sunny day. No dryer yet, but maybe I'll get one in here at some point.

I'm gonna start looking for a Magic Laundry device like John has. Mine would have to be oriented differently. No basement... I think he may have the Schrodinger's Magic Laundry Hole, or Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle at work there. Like the double slit experiment, Observer Effect is real.

    1. Winters in Vermont, Mom would hang stuff on the line, then bring it inside to thaw out.

  8. Mondays at work often start with "how was your weekend" or "what did you do this weekend." Outside of our trips which are only once or twice a year, we live rather boring lives. "I did laundry" or "I bought mulch at Home Depot" never meet the expectations that that question hopes for.

I'm a little surprised you hadn't heard of the Coors before that post. They had a few hits a while back, and they aren't hard to look at!

  9. I am the designated laundry processor. Got me a set of Speed Queens and love them. Seriously, when looking for an apartment, one of the requirements was that it had fullt-sized washer-dryer hookups. My preciouses...

I do know to separate whites from everything else, light colors from darker colors, and if enough, blues from reds.

As to washing brand-new clothes, that removes the sizing and anti-insectoid stuffs they spray on the shirt when packing. Like formaldehyde and other nasties. Plus, for darker clothes, it removes excess dye, not so noticeable with light colors, but for blue jeans and such, a serious thing.

Suits usually don't need the cleaning as they usually get steamed and cleaned before being sold. Maybe off the rack stuff, but you shouldn't be wearing your suit without suitable underlayers anyways.

As to laundry secrets, we at the Beans household have totally gone away from laundry detergents. We just use Dawn dishwashing liquid, about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup or so. Works great on getting oils and greases out of clothes for some strange reason and is hypo-allergenic.

Wish I could put up a clothes line here, but can't.

As to Corrs, well, eh. They're okay I guess.

So what are you doing for food-stuffs? Bachelor meals (frozen burritos with salsa and chips, that type of thing) or are you actually good at cooking?

    1. I am still alive, which means I'm not cooking anything. Sandwiches are my mainstay, with the occasional bowl of cereal.

If I want a hot meal, the cafeteria at work makes fairly good chow, not as good as when my buddy Danny cooked there, but acceptable. (No one, to my knowledge, has died from cafeteria food there in at least 23 years.)

    2. I only give folks one chance to kill me. If I get even a hint of the trots, that place is marked off limits, and any further visit is subject to non-judicial punishment up to and including "mandatory double ended projectile evacuation, concurrent with middle latitude subcutaneous tectonic plate ripples and quakes." I hate that stuff, so I steer way clear. Thank you, no.

  10. Heyn Old AFSarge;

That's a good song, by the Corrs, I heard that song in the mid 90's, another one that was pretty good but didn't get much airplay for some reason was from Lara Fabian https://youtu.be/UCHuCGiRpws
I and my son flew to Udvar Hazy yesterday to the museum, so today I am doing some domestic stuff while rolling my sleep schedule back to a night schedule

  11. Glad you liked the Corrs, Sarge. There are lots of good videos; the gals certainly aren't hard to look at.
A favorite of mine is "Forgiven, Not Forgotten" sums up the relationship with the gal who introduced this band to me.
