Now, in what feels like the blink of an eye, I'm on the road, leaving Maryland to return home to Little Rhody. Sure, I've got the next three days off, but three versus seventeen, seems a pittance.
But this year I'm doing the four days a week thing, every Friday off, a year of three day weekends. So I've got that going for me.
But vacation is nearly at an end. Back to reality, as they say.
Oh well ...
A year of 4 day weeks is not a bad thing at all!

DeleteHow long the time seems before and how short it seems after - but the 3 day weekends give you something to look forward to the whole year!

DeleteI feel old. I remember when the work week was Monday through Saturday, with only Sunday off. If you were a hunter, you could sometimes get Saturday afternoon off, and the first Saturdays of deer and pheasant season. (Those, and Sundays, were the only days that John Deere (and all the other farm stores) store were closed.)

ReplyDeleteChosen One." I have somewhat joined you in the alternate work schedule. While I don't get every Friday off, I am working 8 9's, one 8, and get every other Friday off. I'm only 6 miles from home now so the commute is easy no matter when I leave.

My commute is ~100' and quite easy. (Provide of course that the gate opens with the button, manually opening it is definitely a PITA.

The Sopranos was pretty groundbreaking when it was on TV. Depressing- yeah, a bit. 100 feet? When I retire it'll be about 15'- from my bed to my recliner for a nap!
DeleteTuna the first, the same song goes through my her whenever I hit Newark! (I actually recognized the toll booth that Tony goes through in the opening sequence, before EZ-Pass I had "been there, done that."

DeleteTuna the third - One of the best shows to hit the small screen. Have you watched "The Many Saints of Newark"? Tony Soprano as a kid, Tony is played by James Gandolfini's son. I highly recommend it.

DeleteAt several points in my working career, I had some relatively short commutes (OI berthing space to CIC was less than 100 feet, vertical). I found that when an employer discovered I lived close to work, it was advantageous to give me a set of keys so I could be called in case of emergency. A short commute can be a real drawback.
ReplyDeleteOne of my sergeants lived on base about a block from our office. He was constantly getting called in, telling me, "It's okay Sarge, I don't mind." Well, sure but I let the high muckety-mucks know that if they couldn't wait the 15 minutes it took for me to drive in, then (and only then) could they call my guy in.
