Resurrection Sunday

Easter, or Pascha (Arameic, or Greek or Latin) or Resurrection Sunday.

He has risen from the dead, after dying for all our sins.  After dying in a most horrid and foul way, feeling the full effects of being human.

The Empty Tomb - George Richardson

Christ has died.

Christ has now Risen.

It is the beginning of 40 days of Jesus walking once again upon this Earth before his Ascencion into Heaven.

No mere words can impart the importance of this day and this time of Him on this earth.

  4. The most important day in the history of the world. He is risen and alive forevermore!
    You can be too.

  5. I have never seen this painting before Beans, but it has a simple simplicity that speaks to the events of the day.

    He is Risen, Indeed.

    1. I was looking for a nice Italian or Flemish Renaissance Master on the Resurrection and got bupkis. Some dorky looking flying in the air like it's the Ascension, but no simple "Oh, Bugger, My tomb's empty" painting.

Then I tried more modern paintings and most of them have that 'overly eager trying to push the message too hard' look of American style Protestant movement art. Fine Comic Art almost.

And then I saw that painting. Perfect. Just impressionistic enough not to fall too deep into the details but still full of enough detail that you aren't left wondering what the heck you are supposed to be seeing. Perfect.

  6. Ascension Day will be May 18 this year.
Commemorate that day with root beer and a scoop of ice cream.

  7. Χριστός Ανέστη!
    Αληθώς Ανέστη!

kingdom has been revealed. Let no one weep for his iniquities, for pardon has shown forth from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Savior’s death has set us free. He that was held prisoner of it has annihilated it. By descending into Hell, He made Hell captive. He embittered it when it tasted of His flesh. And Isaiah, foretelling this, did cry: Hell, said he, was embittered, when it encountered Thee in the lower regions. It was embittered, for it was abolished. It was embittered, for it was mocked. It was embittered, for it was slain. It was embittered, for it was overthrown. It was embittered, for it was fettered in chains. It took a body, and met God face to face. It took earth, and encountered Heaven. It took that which was seen, and fell upon the unseen.

O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? Christ is risen, and you are overthrown. Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen. Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen, and life reigns. Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being risen from the dead, is become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages. Amen.

    2. Nice. There are a heck of a lot more learned people out there in Chant Land than I thought, and I had high opinions of the Chanters to begin with.
