Oh, Man...

Been dealing with a sick wife and an overly concerned 130lb dog who wants to crush sick wife to make her feel better, or to hug her tight, which since sick wife is overheating, well, a 130lb animated heater is just too much heat for her.

So, yeah, I forgot.

Man...

Don't know how our host does this daily.  Man is a machine, a friggin machine.

So, well, since I got nuttin, how about some Poe?

No, not the musician/singer, but Poe, as in Edgar Alan.

Via The Alan Parson's Project, the first album, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination," which, duh, is based on EAP's work.  And "Cask of Amontillado" follows the story very well.  Very well. Such a sweet sounding song that isn't sweet at all.

LYRICS

By the last breath of the four winds that blow
I'll have revenge upon Fortunato
Smile in his face, I'll say, "come, let us go
I've a cask of Amontillado"
Sheltered inside from the cold of the snow
Follow me now to the vault down below
Drinking the wine as we laugh at the time
Which is passing incredibly slow
(What are these chains binding my arms?)
Part of you dies each passing day
(Say it's a game and I'll come to no harm)
You'll feel your life slipping away
You who are rich and whose troubles are few
May come around to see my point of view
What price the crown of a King on his throne
When you're chained in the dark all alone?
(Spare me my life, only name your reward)
Part of you dies each brick I lay
(Bring back some light, in the name of the Lord)
You'll feel your mind slipping away
Songwriters: Alan Parsons, Eric Norman Woolfson.

  1. Beans, all good. First things first. Hope Mrs. Andrew is doing better.

The Alan Parsons Project. That, as a turn of phrase goes, is a name I have not heard in a very long time.

    1. She's surviving. Just a loooong night.

As to APP, they got a tad dark and angry after the "Gaudi" album, then Woolfson left, it kind of shut down, Woolfson died, Parsons came back with "Try Anything Once" and has pumped out 3-5 albums after that and some singles. His last two albums sound like he's saying goodbye to touring, to composing, to old dead friends and family and getting ready to pass on to the next sound studio in the sky.

But the albums all hold still to this day as all great ones.

    2. I *loved* the vocalist that sang on "The Cask...", it was gritty and very evocative of the attitude of what Poe wad trying to impress upon the listener!

...and a prayer for your Missus!

    1. Bad stomach flu. It, too, shall pass, and pass and pass.

Poe is one of my favorite US writers pre-1900s. Better than Hawthorne by far. So it's not too depressing, as I actually like, in this case, the little guy getting back at the bully.

    2. Enjoyed Poe as well. Not pompous like Hawthorne. He also wrote some of the first detective fiction. My favorite is "The Purloined Letter". Hidden in plain sight.

  3. Wife and I watched "Mr. Right" last night. Very good flick that kept us laughing at the absurdity of it all. Next up will be "Renfield". Many thanks for the recommendations. :-)

    1. Glad to be of service. Mrs. Andrew uses the "I'm a T-Rex" line now when she's feeling goofy. And the dance scenes and music are very nice. Not to mention fun lines like "... Elmer Fudd gun."

"Renfield" is a whole nother level of absurdity.
