All young officers learned that there were three subjects not appropriate to discuss in the wardroom: anything to do with religion, politics or sex.
I'll add a fourth - Any and all events leading up to the conflict which took place on American soil from 1861 to 1865 and the conflict itself.¹
What you believe and what you'll argue for are based almost completely on where you were born and raised.
Just sayin' ...
¹ You could argue that that's politics, but it encompasses so much more.

DeleteSo I'll say it here: government does not grant rights, government is always trying to take rights away so they can "give" (that is sell) you them as privileges.
ReplyDeleteRights are held in the face of goverment trying to take them away. If you need permission or permit or allowances or ... they have a long list of names for this ... it's all selling you something they stole from you.

DeleteConcur. Our Liberties are given by God. Our Republic was instituted as a guarantor, NOT grantor of those Liberties. How far we have strayed -or allowed our government to stray - is a travesty that would horrify our Founders.
DeleteAs to the topic of this post, I will say only at this point that my take on those events has changed dramatically as I read more history, live longer and contemplate more.
