Well, Campers, as the title of this post has stated, Mrs J and I are on a new adventure. I have mentioned that she is a Travel Agent and had come up with a pretty good idea to put together and get customers interested in Wine Tours. No, not of the wineries in our area of Texas, although we did start the first version thereof. (There are probably close to 200 now, we are not part of that number.)
No, she puts together River Cruises in the various wine related area that are serviced by river boats. As you are reading this missive, we are a couple of days away from starting our second cruise. We are going to cruise, the Rhine, Main and Mosel rivers in Germany and Luxembourg. I am late writing this because one, I thought we were leaving Texas on Friday and would arrive in Europe on Saturday. Unfortunately, we left on Saturday (as scheduled, Yes Dear!) and arrived late Sunday. But...while you folks are reading this, I and my brave friends will be sitting on the deck (IF warm enough) or in one of the public areas on the ship if not.
Lufthansa 787. Actually used this to learn how to copy a picture from an iPhone directly to a MAC. Worked
After arrival in Prague, Czechoslovakia, we did a bit of a walk around to stretch our legs, I mean it WAS an overnight 9 hour flight from Austin to Frankfurt followed by a 1 hour puddle jump to Prague. Our concierge gave us some pretty good info on important things to go and see. (I think I'm going to skip the Concentration Camp. I don't know.) Then Tuesday we'll be on our way. Our Good Friend from Texas Hills Winery is leading the wine seminars as well as providing excellent Texas versions of their wines. We've done this before to great enthusiasm, no reason to believe there will be anything different this time.
We've got two of those scheduled and the rest of the cruise, 7 days, we will be seeing various parts of Germany. (I'm one of the very few fighter pilots that never served a tour in Germany, all in the Pacific or pointed that way from the States.)
Then we've got two days in Reims studying Champagne, then a day in Paris before we fly home. Obviously, I didn't bring my desktop PC with me (and it's acting like it's on it's dying breath anyhow) and I'm still trying to figure out transferring pictures from my iPhone to my new Mac. With a little luck I'll fix that shortly.
Unfortunately, the "No Sleeping Authorized" flight from Austin and the second flight in Germany and a few other incidents that delayed arrival at the Hotel, have left me pretty tired. I think I'm going to find dinner and call it a night.
Peace Out y'all!

Sounds like fun Juvat! Have a great time and take plenty of pictures!
ReplyDeleteTHBB,
DeleteThanks, Will do! Did the walking tour of the Palace in Prague. Pretty interesting. Also, the requirement to take "plenty of pictures" was fulfilled, at least as far as that portion anyhow. Slept like the dead last night, feeling much more refreshed today. Did you know that it gets significantly colder in Prague in November than in Texas? Who knew?
More to follow.
juvat
Colder in Prague thsn Texas in November? That is crazy talk...
DeleteTHBB,
DeleteThankfully, my wife does (Wisconsin Born and Bred) and packed my suitcase accordingly. Thank you, Dear!
juvat
You married a Badger? WELL DONE, THAT MAN!
DeleteStB,
Delete42 years and counting!

Which cruise line and what cities? I'm jealous. Enjoy the wine and cheese. Expect a detailed debrief following RTB.
ReplyDeleteTuna,
DeleteAmawaterways. Prague is a ground tour, but we're busing up to Nuremburg day after tomorrow to get on board the boat and start the cruise.
Other stops include: Bamberg, Wurzburg, Wertheim, Lahnstein, Cochem, Wasserbillig Luxembourg. Those are the docking ports, the ship has a lot of land tour options available in the area of each of those stopping places. (They're not really ports, just a place to tie up.). Lots of fun, lots of history (Sarge!) to view as you are sailing. Remember rivers were an important means of transportation back in the middle ages. Spent this morning in a 12th century Prague castle, complete with dungeon. Wouldn't have wanted to have stayed there back in the day.
The ship holds 100 pax, so not real crowded and you can make a lot of new friends. This is our 2nd cruise of this type. Looking forward to more cruises in this venue. In fact, Mrs J is putting together a cruise to Australia and New Zealand in March of next year. Just sayin'. Not that I'm trying to sell anything or anything.
juvat
No need to sell us, our most favorite cruise was one of these type, on Avalon. Lots of little cities we pulled into for a short trip and excursion. We have other bucket list trips already planned, but thank you.
DeleteTuna,
DeleteNo worries.
juvat
Seconding Tuna juvat, will need that AAR. A good sized ship for riverine cruising, no mass of humanity while you're onboard. Dad's family came from close to Praha........ :)
ReplyDeleteNylon,
DeleteWill do, but can't make any promises. Blogging in a big city is fairly easy, once you figure out how to connect and sign in (instructions in Czech are not easy to interpret). Not sure how good the connectivity will be on board the boat. They say you'll have internet connectivity on the boat, but they don't say how good it'll be. So...
Interesting about your ancestry. I've met most of the Pax on the boat and a lot of them are from Texas. We had a meeting with the cruise director last night. She's Czech. Found out that Texas, especially in the middle of the state, had a lot of Czech immigrants in the late 18's and early 19's. Didn't know that. The world sure is small.

Geeeezzzz...Sounds like you will need to go to work or something to rest up from your vacation!
ReplyDeleteJoe,
DeleteThat's a very safe bet. (But, it's fun!!!)

Safe travel!
ReplyDeleteRob,
DeleteThanks,

Have fun. (Blogger really hosed the formatting of the blog today, it's only showing your post and not the seven per page as specified. Gargle is being dumb is my guess.)
ReplyDeleteSarge,
DeleteWill do (and am).

Follow up to my earlier comment. Your photo had a ton of unneeded (and unwanted) HTML under the hood, which gooned up the formatting. I fixed that. It seems that your MAC-Foo needs a little more work. Just sayin' ...
ReplyDeleteSarge,
DeleteHmmm!
On my PC, I'd write the article in Notepad, just to get the words into the product and not have to worry about editing the HTML also if I wanted to make a change. Once I was satisfied with the article, I'd cut and paste it into Blogger, then edit format only if needed to clean things up. I guess that doesn't work as smoothly on a Mac as it did on a PC. It was more difficult to edit on the Mac though and when I went into edit, I noticed there was excess HTML code left behind. Guess I need to learn more about the Mac and HTML. Or see if there is a similar Mac program that works like Notepad, (just the words stupid, just the words).
Thanks for the heads up.
juvat
It was the picture that added the excess HTML, I took a screenshot of your photo, pasted it into the post from MS Paint and all of the excess HTML went away. If you can't see the picture in the editor window, then something isn't quite right. All I saw in the editor was a gray block that had IMG in the center. Once I took the screenshot and replaced the IMG in the editor, I could see the photo.
DeleteBlogger can be very "strange" when it comes to pictures and videos.
Yeah, I saw that same effect when I put it in the first time. Deleted that and repasted it. Didn't think to look at the HTML and see if there was extra stuff there, so...Live and learn from the Master, Thanks. I was running out of time between the late arrival and the first meeting of the guests so assumed it was ok and published and ran to the meeting. Rats!
DeleteThanks for the fix.

I'm here for you. 😉

DeleteEnjoy and Happy Veterans Day Juvat!

ReplyDeleteHere, have a Prague themed piece of music and history.
Pavel,
DeleteWell, THAT got my blood up and running.
Thanks

Have fun! Gurgle.
ReplyDeleteD4,
DeleteWe have so far. Prague is a very interesting town. More to follow.

Juvat, I'm late to this post. My Mom's dad emigrated from Prague in 1886. My great grandfather had gotten a job in the steel mills in Cleveland., so he and his wife packed up their six children and traveled in steerage to NYC, and then on to Cleveland. Grandpa was the youngest, so his job was to empty the chamber pot as needed. He was born in 1880, and lived to be 86.
