In a Semi-Dark Kind of Mood ...

PxHere
I'll open with this - I am an optimist but I'm also a realist.

The election is today, it's a big one. I have been hearing the odd political ad here and there, normally while watching football. Not that I watch a lot of football but enough that I've been exposed to an ad or three in the past few weeks.

The amount of absurdity, nonsense, and outright lies I've heard are astounding. Most of the candidates out there are guilty of it. I get it, they're trying to get re-elected by selling themselves to voters who are pretty naive. I mean most Americans are content to live their lives and hope nobody annoying bothers them.

Well, every couple of years their elected representatives (not leaders, damn it) go out of their way to annoy them. The old "if I'm elected, I will ..." promises flow freely, most of the candidates know that the voters will go back to their regular routines and not really care if all of those promises are kept.

Leastways that's my take on it.

One side or the other will "win," that's in quotes because the American people should be the winners, not some group of politicians. We, the People, didn't "win" in the last election, if you think we did, you either don't buy gasoline, or groceries, or anything else for that matter. Prices have skyrocketed over the past four years.

Why?

If we don't produce energy, we have to buy it from somewhere. If the price of gasoline goes up, so does everything else. Planes, trains, and automobiles (trucks actually) move everything you want to buy or sell.

Fields are plowed and harvested with machines that use gasoline.

Gasoline, not hopes, wishes, solar, or wind - gasoline. It's that simple.

Vote today. It's important.

And pray...

hard.

  1. On the leadup to today's election, I felt like Samwise traveling to Mount Doom....... all that darkness....er...political ads.....mind numbing. But....but....but....Sarge.....been told inflation is under control by the MSM (screeching Nazgul).

    1. Notice they never define what "under control" means.

  2. Nor is "fair share" ever defined. The biggest problem, in my eyes, is that the electorate has lost sight of what the Constitution is and what it is supposed to do.

My question is when will the Antifa Sturmabteilung and the BLM Red Guards be unleashed to resume the civil war we saw from 2016 to 2021? Will it be tonight? Or wait until Wednesday?

    1. It all depends whether the Politburo thinks they won, or lost.

    2. Except the black bloc has already promised they will riot regardless of whomever wins - or is said to have won. Stay alert if you live near a blue hive. They're boarding up businesses in DC and other places.

  3. The open and out right lies bother me the most, because they are accepted by half the people...all you have to do is look past what they are saying & verify! But that doesn't happen.

  4. I can only do what I can do. I refuse to worry over things I have no control over. I got up this morning, went to the gym and did my 40 minutes on the treadmill cause I do want to drop a few pounds and get the cholesterol and BP down. I am going to the eye doctor's today because reading the fine print with a magnifying glass is getting old very fast. It's been 6 months, my vision should be back to baseline after my episode of Bell's Palsy. I will take Dad over to get his new glasses at the same time as I don't want him driving, and gas aint cheap, I don't care what the TV tells me. I am going to take my 3 year old car to the dealer's to get it's 120K mile thing and a oil change done to it so it will be ready for winter.
And then I will go vote. Happily. Because that means that all the stupid phone calls, and ads on TV both will stop. I can go talk with friends again as by then they wont be trying to convert me to their way of thinking. Pretty sure my vote wont be the one that sweeps my guy into power, because I live in NY, but every little drop does help when doing water torture, and if I vote, I have the right to bitch, whine and complain about stuff I don't approve of...at least that is my thinking...and I can tell folks, "Ya can't blame me, I voted for the other candidate, why didn't you?? You feel you were lied to?? Funny how that happens...I did warn ya, but you decided I was an old grumpy gramma who doesn't know anything any more".
And then I will go home, pray, and watch the returns tonight to see what is headed our way.
Sarge, you are 100% correct...gas and diesel are what moves this country. Anyone who didn't learn THAT lesson about 3 years ago isn't tall enough for this ride, and shouldn't be allowed to vote!!!

  5. I dread going to vote. But I (htom) know which candidates I want to lose more, so I'll vote for that. And pray. Lots of prayer.

  6. Sarge, regarding the picture: One night some years prior a friend and I were driving through New Mexico in the middle of the night. It was overcast and there was not a star visible. Suddenly there was a lightening strike and, just like above, it completely lit up the whole landscape. It was one of the eeriest things I have ever seen.

As for the election: the more I read about the latter days of the Byzantine Empire (A.D. 1262 - 1453), the more similarities I see. The reality is that, much like Byzantium, our power and our relevance stems from our economic stature and prowess. Remove that - via a loss of industry, a loss of trade, and/or skyrocketing deficits that result in either deficit spending or the increase of taxing income (or both), and we become much less relevant.

The U.S., or at least parts of it (including its government) tend to view themselves as the most important thing ever. What happens if and when the rest of the world simply moves on?

  7. I am confident and hopeful, knowing so many who are feeling the pain of the pump, the register, and the crime, will connect it to the current powers that be. Many silent voters, fearful of reprisal or condemnation, will be voting for change, and there are legions of them. Will they outnumber dead, fake, or illegal voters? That is one of my many prayers.

  8. While not discounting the candidates actions, we need to realize all these dark money PACs can spout whatever garbage they want with no repercussions. Mostly beyond the control of the candidates, they poison the process. Both candidates in my Congressional district are decent people. The garbage that fills my mailbox tries to demonize them.

    1. That seems to be the way of things these days. But if a candidate says, "I approve this message," then the onus is on them.

  9. in the words of Alfred E. Neuman- "What, me worry?"

Not going to worry about it today. Maybe not even for a couple of weeks. I've done what little I can.

  10. Our voting opened at 0700. We got there about 0715. Were done and processed by 0730. Lots of smiling faces and help (with getting the ballot thru the scanner). Quite a pleasant experience, but the Burg is still a Republican Majority. We’ll see what we will see!
