Monday. Woo-Hoo!

...Not Really

Feeling really bad about short-changing everyone on the Friday Flyby. It's a post I look forward to writing and I felt kind of bad about the brevity of last Friday's effort. Such as it was.

So, while I was a fighter guy back in the day, we didn't go anywhere without heavy lift. The jets can fly on their own to their destination but the rest of the stuff (maintenance folks, spare parts, etc) need the heavies. What we affectionately called "the trash haulers". Not much glory in flying a multi-engined transport I guess.

But the experts will tell you: "Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics." And logistics require transport. Floating and flying. So here's a hat tip to those men and women who haul the bullets and beans. Thanks for the lift!

So, both daughters and the oldest grand-daughter were in town for to entertain the Old Man (Your Humble Scribe) in honor of his impending birthday this past weekend. (Well, the anniversary of that event, not the actual day mind you. For those of you with a pickier take on the English language than others. Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

It was (I may have mentioned this) an awesome weekend. Then on Sunday, it struck me (through various means) that the girls were also here to celebrate Mother's Day. With their Mom, the Missus Herself. That holiday is always near my birthday. I always have to share the limelight with the moms in the family. And I really can't bitch about it either. That would look bad. Very bad.

Random Passerby #1: "Hey, can you believe that a-hole over there bitching about Mother's Day? What a jerk!"

Random Passerby #2: "Yeah. What's wrong with him?"

So yes, I do need to restrain myself. Mothers can be a very tough crowd.

  1. In re: trash haulers. That's all I ever flew in, and I HATED the 130s. Cold and noisy is the best I can say about them. The 141s and the C-9 (medevac birds) were pretty nice, though.

So... are yer daughters gone, or are they staying for Mothers Day?

    1. They had to head back to work on Tuesday. We all had the unimaginable joy of arising at the butt crack of dawn today. Little Bit was most displeased. Can't say I blame her!

  3. I love to watch those big planes when we go through Altus, OK. They always seem to be circling and touching down and taking off again.

    Happy Belated birthday.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
