I'm Out ...¹

(Source)
I am out of gas.

It's been a long week, comments yesterday got way too contentious for my taste and far too political. Can't you people just enjoy the ride? (I turned the comments off intentionally, I was tired of reading some of them.)

Taking a couple of days off. Yeah, I'm a little pissed off.

Besides which, I need to gather this whole story together and figure out where it has to go next. I do intend to finish this tale. But not today.

Read the folks on the side bar.

OAFS, out.

¹ Not permanently mind you, I just need a wee break.

  1. Your blog your rules Sarge. There was some good news yesterday, six-month CT scan showed clear lungs although an ultrasound is coming up because of a cyst on a kidney.....still above ground though........ :)

  3. The booger is mistreating me again.
I really don’t understand unnecessary editorializing in comments.
If folks want to do it they should make an effort to create their own space instead of hijacking an existing space.
    Buck wouldn’t’ve done it.

    Sorry for venting

  4. I was enjoying the spirited discussion and marveling that your storyline could generate so much with so much both passion and nuance.

    1. There's certain topics which bore and annoy me, we were getting deeper into that when I shut things down.

That being said, most of it was good.

  5. Crusty Old TV Tech here. Have been reading the story as it unfolds with resignation, dread, exasperation, and not a little interest. Sarge, you have tapped into a well whose depths are unplumbed, and whose waters need to be drunk. Musie must need a break after all that. It is a story that demands telling, it would appear to me, so if the demand is still there after a pause, press on good sir!

    1. The story interests me, so it will continue. It's one way for me to comment on current events without directly commenting on current events.

And the Muse asked for, and was granted, a break.

  6. This is exactly why I have come to avoid writing some things: not that they are not worth discussing, but sometimes people feel that the right to comment is the right to put forth the wildest sorts of things (or they lack the self control to manage their own comments). Not only is it exhausting to police the comments and frankly makes the whole endeavor not enjoyable at all, it creates issues for the author: their name is on the blog and original entry, not the commenters. But the author is the one that will get associated with all of the undesirable comments.

To Sarge's point: the rules are below. All of us are guests here. If you really have strong feelings about some things, if there is something boiling up inside of you that needs to get out, write your own blog or post on social media or find a discussion group that handles that sort of thing - trust me, there are plenty of all of those out there that have strong opinions on such things. But make it your own, not using someone else's labor of love to do it. Pushed far enough, that labor of love no longer is worth it.

Said differently, these sorts of outcomes are why we cannot have nice things.

    1. Spot on, TB. That's a shack. (A USAF slang term meaning a direct hit against a ground target, often used as praise.)

    4. I've seen folks start a blog, write one or two posts (sometimes even three) and then the wind goes out of their sails and you never hear from them again.

The starting is easy, the staying is hard.

    5. @ Rob:
      "The hard part..."
That's not even funny. IMHO; the greatest majority of the blogs are sheer undiluted bravo sierra written in poor English with absolutely no forethought (and minimum grey matter).
Mucho kudos to be heaped upon the OldAFSarge; he puts in a humongous amount of effort; and all of it readable by any/everyone.

  7. Both Muse and you deserve a break, and we need to brake ourselves.

    1. Time to regroup, resupply, and reorganize. No wait, that last thing is what the USAF did back in the day whenever they lost the bubble, or someone needed a new bullet for their fitness report.

  9. Guilty as charged- being political that is. It's hard to not be when the story seems almost pulled from the headlines and quite plausible.

    1. You were not the PITA yesterday. Someone else grabbed that honor. (Someone who has never commented before.)

  10. Sarge- Concur with your decision and reasons therefore.
A bit under the weather, but not underground, but may be able to crank out some marginal filler stuff.
