In Six Days...

...will be the first day of spring.

The opening photo was taken yesterday, one week prior to the Vernal Equinox. Hard to believe.

I have had quite enough of winter, thank you very much.

Remember the old saying about March? "In like a lion, out like a lamb..."

I seem to remember that March came roaring in like a freaking tyrannosaurus rex, as it found The Missus Herself and I sans electricity and sitting in a Mexican restaurant watching the rain come down, the lights flicker, and the wind howling like a demented thing.

Then another storm, then another...

I swear, March, "you got some 'splainin' to do!"

Stayed home on Tuesday, as planned. Though upon awakening to the call of nature at 0400, when I looked outside it was raining.

"Alrighty then, looks like a false alarm, I guess I'll be going to work today."

"Meow?"

"No, it's not time to eat, papa's going back to bed for a couple of hours."

Time passes. Quickly...

"Meow?"

"Alright girls, breakfast time it is!"

Looking out the window I see a sea of whiteness. The ground, the trees and bushes, the neighbors' houses, the cars, the air, everything is white. With a certain amount of glee I returned to my bedchamber and slept the sleep of the lazy. Not to arise until nine-ish. Had some coffee, had a bagel, and I watched it snow.

The stuff was fairly wet, I could see it caked to the power lines, I half expected to lose power at some point in the day. As I write this (2015 local) we still have electricity. The roads are mostly plowed, my driveway has been shoveled by the nice young man next door and all seems to be well.

Alas, tomorrow it's back to work.

  2. Aaachh.... maybee ye be havin' a white St Paddy's Day now won't ye? Snowdays are fine especially if it melts quickly as it is wont to do this late in the season. The snow along the north side of my driveway is eroding slowly while along the south side it is still 3 and a half to 4 feet tall.

    1. There will probably be some left come St Patrick's Day, but probably not much. The snow just doesn't linger this late in the season.

  3. I used to love the snow, especially when school was closed. I still love it, but usually don't admit it. We escaped all three storms for the most part, 10 miles north got blasted and lost power for days, secretly I still wished it hit south also.

    1. I have a love/hate relationship with snow. It's pretty but can be a colossal PITA as well.

  4. You'll have to ice fish on the opening day of fishing season.

    1. Hahaha!

Hasn't really been cold enough to freeze over the lakes and rivers since January. It's been an unusual winter.

  5. Doesn’t linger. Aye.

Imagine for a moment how much snow it took to put a glacier 5000’ over your head. How cold for how long to start that first winter where the snow did not all melt all summer.

    1. Yeah, that's a mind-boggling thought.

Thousands of years, if not millions?

  6. You know, you could have shared that with us. We haven't had a really decent snow in 3 years. Enjoy your day off!!

...fever, cold, chills...not feelin' so good - and it's only raining here.

      Keep warm, Sarge!

    3. Today is shaping up to be nice. At least we've got blue skies and it hasn't been really cold since January. (It's in the high 20s, low 30s which isn't bad.)

      Get well soon BC!

  7. I got enough cold and snow in Korea. A little light dusting and gone by noon is just fine with me. Stay warm and stop by if it gets too much.

    1. I really wish that one of you'd stop buy. And we haven't had any snow to speak of for three years as well. No scotch, some Jamieson, lots of rum. AAAARGH!
      √6 I'm back.

    2. Juvat, did Dave say "Jameson's"? I think he did!

Lots of rum, we could make a dent in that. Just sayin'...

  8. Just plain rain here, finally.
There's a little wind and it's in the upper 50s.
I'm thinking March may have some time to get it's act together.

  9. I showed your photo to my wife and she said " The storm before the calm."

Well, I thought it was funny.

    Thanks for the post.

  10. Well, at least the power stayed on! That can be hard to do when the forecast is for wet and heavy accumulation. Although, the last 2 storms probably did all the pruning needed.

  11. A few miles south in Ames they received 7 inches of snow. We got nothing here and, honestly, I'm glad. The last snow I shoveled was wet and heavy. Time for sunshine and 50s...

    Peace. ;)
