The flying sequences were nothing short of incredible, the acting was excellent, and the story was good old-fashioned fun - good guys win!
Of course, upon awakening Saturday morning, my first thought was, "How did they do that?" So I went looking, here's what I found ...
It's impressed I was.

Oops, one last thought, The Missus Herself and Your Humble Scribe were rather hungry after the film, so we went to Chick-fil-A®, for the first time¹ mind you.

I saw it on thursday, got pleasantly surprised. For one, there was unlike first movie a mission to do, involving ground target, and there was a bit of more of Navy at large doing their job, namely support cruise missiles strike. I almost expected Fanboy to comment on Star Wars after the mission brief. With callsign like that... Solid entertainmenrt, 9 mach out of 10

ReplyDeleteYou may be able to 'rent' it via your cable/satellite provider. Worth it to be able to pause and control the volume and such.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the movie although the threat analysis part of me commented to the spousal unit after the movie was, they were using Iran as a Proxy because they are the only country that has F14's we did until we retired them in the 90's. and they used the SA-3 SAM system as their primary SAM system although I had to look up the 5th generation stealth fighter the proxy was using...I didn't recognize that one. the SU-57 Felon. Dang good movie, will buy the DVD when it comes out. Sure I could buy it on digital, but I actually like owning it on "Hardcopy".
Who else but Iran, right?

DeleteExcellent movie. .Possibly the best made in the last decade! One question popped up a couple days after I saw it. From a non pilot, what are the odds (spoiler alert) that when he lost his front landing gear, on the short runway takeoff with the F-14, he did not rip open a hydraulic line and start losing hydraulic fluid that could have affected his later maneuverability?
ReplyDeleteTalked to one of my Naval Aviator sons-in-law (Tuttle), though there are hydraulic lines down to the wheel itself, severing those lines wouldn't cause that much fluid loss.

DeleteSharon and I saw it on the 29th of May. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The seats in the theatre had the motion feature and it was fun. The cat shots were a bit mild as the shuttle hitting the water brake is a solid bang! The guy next to me asked if I had done it and I told him about being shot in the Venerable Grumman C-1A Trader. He simply said, Wow!

Even as a humble blackshoe, er professional surface warfare officer, I lucked into two COD rides in the venerable C-1 (they were still kinda new back in the early 1970s....). One cat shot and one deck run launch. I was too ignorant to know or care much, but never have been a fan of defying gravity, but it was kinda fun at the time.
