Improving, Slowly, But Perceptibly ...

OAFS Photo

Being on one crutch to no crutches is a huge difference.
-- Lindsey Vonn Source

She has a point you know. When I first had the knee go out, my right leg was pretty much useless. I had to hang on to something in order to get from Point A to Point B. The Missus Herself dug out the old crutches from a couple of years back and the movement problem was eased, not great but workable.

After a couple of days of Prednisone and staying off of the bad leg I was moving around a lot better.

Prednisone is all gone now, I just take ibuprofen as needed for both the remaining pain, which there is some, and for the inflammation in the knee. (I'm assuming that's there as after 600 mg of ibuprofen the knee feels much better.)

Down to one crutch now, and if I move very slowly and deliberately I can move around with no crutches at all. While it does cause some stress to the right leg, it's gotten better over the last cuppla days. The feeling of not absolutely needing the crutches though is, as Lindsey noted, a very big difference. One might go so far as to say "liberating."

I hate being laid up for any reason, as things improve my morale gets better and better. Now I just need someone to cut my lawn until I'm 100%.

I contacted a local service and we'll see how that goes. The price was right, i.e. cheap, but I'll have to see what kind of job they do. As long as the lawn looks okay I'm happy with that.

No doubt it won't be to The Missus Herself's standard but until the knee is back up and fully mission capable, we'll just have to make do.

We'll see ...

  2. Sarge,
Glad to see progress is being made! Patience (one of your strong points😉) is still required though, so hang in there! Prayers are continuing.

    1. I lack patience because I'm not a doctor ...

      (Wait. What?)

  3. The line between Pushing it that increases your abilities and the Pushing it that creates lasting injury is a fine line. Beware of
I Should do that. If i ignore the pain and push through, it'll be Allrite.

    1. Pain is your body telling you, "Don't do that." (It ain't weakness leaving the body.)

I believe that slow and steady wins the race.

  4. How do I know I overdid it?

    Tomorrow tells me.

Seriously be careful as your friends already told you.

  5. As I once heard a retired rugby player say 'old age does not creep up on you gradually. It smacks you unexpectedly between the eyes with a lump of 4x2 on a wet Wednesday afternoon in October'. Be careful and look after your knees.

  6. Two nights ago as I got up from the desk the right knee decided to flare up. No reason I can think of. No crutch but the heavy duty brace from last year is on now. Perhaps I'm emulating you?

    1. Perhaps it's something in the air? I'm thinking of getting a knee brace.

Thinking, mind you, not quite ready to get one.

  8. Another step forward, or something like that! Good news.

On the yard guys- if even marginally acceptable, consider turning the job over to them full time. Your time is better spent doing stuff you like better, such as reading, writing, gaming, drums, concerts, visiting grandkids, etc. It is very liberating to be able to do as you please, especially if it requires and travel, without worrying about "I gotta cut the grass since it's been "x" days since the last time.

    1. I'm definitely looking for someone to take this on full time. Last year I didn't mind cutting the grass, this year it's been a chore I'd rather not do anymore!

  9. I'll echo the congratulations and the warnings about pushing too hard.
SOMETHING happened to your knee. Until you know what, err on the side of caution. To paraphrase, "Just because you can do something doesn't mean it isn't stupid. "

    1. Something did indeed happen, in a not good way, and I know it won't magically fix itself.

  10. Your wife is gone to visit her sisters though right? That will give the lawn time to recover before she sees it!
