Busy, busy, busy!

Ok, Campers, don't have much story to tell today.  We just got back from a soiree' in Dripping Springs (Western Suburb of Austin).  The widow of my Winemaker friend (and a Winemaker herself) had invited a lot of the people we had met and toured wine regions around the world with.  It was great to see them all again.

One of the guests and a friend of mine showed me his woodworking skills when he was told he needed a cane.  I think it's pretty cool

About 30 folks showed up, lots of good stories told and retold as well as the almost guaranteed "Remember when juvat..." or other guys stories of foibles were told.

Dinner was catered and the main course was chicken or beef fajitas.  Most excellent.

And....

Having sold the winery they had stashed away a decent amount of wine before inventory was counted for the sale.

All excellent!  Whites and Rose's were available, but their best wines have always been reds.  I had a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc first to quench my thirst then switched to Reds.

Excellent as always.

There was a bit of music that was quite enjoyable.  The couple were long time clients at the winery, so were invited to play (and have some wine).  A very nice touch to a very nice evening.

The party went on for quite a while, and most of the wives had the chauffeur role in getting home.  Mrs J and I had been invited to spend the night at our host's house which we took advantage of.

The following morning we had a souffle for breakfast and departed for home.

A truly excellent event all round.

Cheers!

    1. We have fond memories of a winery visit in South Australia where the musical entertainment was a string quartet playing Gershwin tunes. Luvvly stuff.

    2. Deaieme,
I’ll bet it was. Mrs J and I, along with a good Aussie friend I’d met in “Armee training sir!, did a wine tasting trip around their wineries down under. Most excellent! But they don’t ship the really good stuff to us low ranking oenophiles in the US. Might have to visit again.

    1. THBB,
It was. Lots of good friends that we've kinda lost touch with with our move. But good to touch base with them again. Depending on your assessment of "Cool". The highs lately have been in the 80s and this weekend has a forecast low in the 50's. For Sarge and his gang that's shorts and flip flop weather. Down here that's parka weather (ok a light jacket).

  4. A great reminder of the nicer things in life which can be enjoyed. Especially when they check multiple boxes simultaneously. I am sure your hostess enjoyed it as well, so win-win-win all around.

    1. JB, you're absolutely right on both accounts. It was fun, great to reestablish friendships and just exchange "what's happening" stories.

  5. I have a buddy that met a girl in Paso Robles when he was stationed there, She was the only daughter of an olive farmer and they went back after he retired. Their farm is a 40 acre mountain with another 30 acres of bottom land. They are surrounded by wineries and they have a 900 bottle wine cellar. I try to visit them every 2 years.

    1. Tsquared, a 900 bottle wine cellar? I should be so lucky. I've got a couple of whites in the fridge (it is Texas, cold wine is called for) and a case of so of an assortment of reds. Just enough on hand to be able to serve a surprise visitor and the Missus and I for a couple of days.

  6. It sounds like a marvelous occasion. But, "Dripping Springs"? Come on Texicans, you can do better that that - said a Floridian where there are towns that have so many letters in them, you have to stop and slowly go through the pronunciation.
The kids finally moved here from Santa Cruz CA and brought the remnants (sixteen cases) of their Pinot Noir from 2021. He said he was going to store it in the garage. Oh, I hope not. But he's my boy, and I shall not interfere (sez Miss Jeanie)!

    1. Anon,
I'd definitely put my foot down about storing wine in the garage. A little used closet inside the house or something like that will keep the Pinot Noir for quite a while. Otherwise, he's making crappy vinegar.
      Just sayin'

    1. No Cellar, (the ground is VERY hard in that area), but a wine closet in a spare bedroom.
