History, Departing

Tomorrow she sails into history.

USS Enterprise is being decommissioned on 1 December 2012, you can read more over at Steeljaw Scribe.

I don't really have the heart to comment on this other than to say that The Nuke served on her with 1st Deck Division as a midshipman, Big Time was there for her last two deployments - flying off her flight deck into the wilds of Afghanistan.

If any ship can be family, it's this one.

Farewell Big "E"...

  1. It's always sad to see a part of you fade away, and I can see where those who served on The Big E feel that way.

I have those same sorts of feelings; ALL of the radar sites I served at... some loved, some hated... are gone. The radar towers remain at most of 'em, given they were large concrete multi-story structures, but those sites I've visited have the feel of a western ghost town.

    1. Yup, whether you hate the thing, or love the thing. Once it's part of you, that's all she wrote. That's what I love about you and the other Lexicans Buck. Y'all get it, you just get it.

  2. That's a great pic of the USS Enterprise. Sad to see her go. Didn't I see a story today about plans to use the name again on new carrier sometime in the future? If true, at least the name will live on.

    1. CVN-80 is slated to be the next Enterprise. Provided the United States has not joined the ranks of socialist failures by then. I know our "gubmint" is working hard to get us there.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
