Ode of Remembrance
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
The Navy has identified the members of the aircrew that were killed in the crash of their EA-6B Prowler on Monday morning, 11 March 2013, approximately 50 miles west of Spokane, Washington -
LTJG Valerie Delaney, 26, Naval Aviator
LTJG William McIlvaine, 24, Naval Flight Officer
LCDR Alan Patterson, 34, Naval Flight Officer
We remember them and we mourn their loss.
The nation can ill afford the loss of such fine men and women.
The nation can ill afford the loss of such fine men and women.
Their families face that howling emptiness that all military families dread, yet some must face. Our prayers today are for LTJG Delaney, LTJG McIlvaine and LCDR Patterson.
Also their families, their shipmates and their friends as they mourn this grievous lost.
