Works for Me ...

(Source)
Big doings down Maryland way and in these parts as well (Little Rhody for those who aren't regulars).

Seems that the newest member of the tribe, Finnegan, though that callsign isn't official yet, has had his daycare swept from underneath him. Presents a problem as both his parents work which is why The Missus Herself (or Grandma as the wee ones insist) has been forward deployed down below the Mason-Dixon line these past two weeks. I should mention that The Nuke was Down Under for those two weeks for work. Leaving Tuttle having to work AND watch the wee ones. Which is why Wonder Woman The Missus Herself was down there, helping the kids out, as is her wont.

Now I've been maintaining the Palace as well as I can (yes, that's not very well) what with work and dying laptops and a pending return of The Missus Herself so we could head north to celebrate Thanksgiving. Which leads me to "the big doings in these parts."

Seems half the tribe up there has been hit with "covid-like-symptoms" leaving the rest to panic and decide that Thanksgiving should be spent much like 2021 was, in our own little bunkers protected from politicians the world.

Now I ain't going to go into the politics of this, those who wish to in the comments may find their comments deleted, I have less and less patience with politics of any flavor. Can we just agree that ALL POLITICIANS SUCK, or will eventually? And leave it at that.

So the freaking Grinch cancelled Thanksgiving up north. I was resigned to spending the day with the love of my life (The Missus Herself) just chilling and eating pie. (Two of which I ordered for the get together which is now not going to happen.)

Now, back to the daycare situation. Seems the daycare which Roberto did attend (and enjoyed) and which Finnegan is (was?) attending somehow let things slide to the point where the state decided that they were no longer a licensed daycare facility. I don't know the full particulars, and don't much care, other than the youngest member of the tribe has no daycare and must stay home with both parents working, mostly NOT AT HOME.

Now the hunt for a new daycare has commenced but, one thing leading to another, "Hey Dad, can Mom stay until after Thanksgiving?"

Um, well, uh, I do have pies, two of 'em. But gee, does Mom (The Missus Herself) really have to stay another week?

Yes.

Uh, well, okay, I guess ...

"I want to fly you to BWI on Wednesday, return the Sunday after T-Day."

Oh boy, air travel over T-Day, ouch, Holy Crap, that's gonna be ...

"Sure, why not?"

So I must needs be suffer the slings and arrows of air travel over A Major Holiday, but on the upside get to spend T-Day with grandkids.

Sign me up.

Downside?

Well, for y'all, I have no laptop now. So guess what I won't be doing over the holiday?

Blogging.

Talk quietly among yourselves, maybe I'll toss up a re-run before I go, maybe I'll just say the heck with it and join the Muse, away from the keyboard.

We shall see.

  3. All that sturm und drang about wee Finn not having a daycare..... what about me?
No Soliloquy du Sarge® to start the day? Man, if ever there was a day care for ME this is it....
What am I gonna do? ;)

Have a good week Sarge, enjoy the trip below the Maginot-Defense Line. As for all politicians suck, there are some that blow as well. Are those Two Stroke Grift Pumps©? I reckon to some extent the beltway is a slag* corral... *Brit slang, not iron work

  4. Oh boy!! No daycare, no laptop, no Turkey day...talk about trouble showing up in 3's!!! At least you will be with The Mrs and grandkids on the holiday. Guess ya really can't take the pies with you...TSA would probably frown on that, party-poopers. Can you either cancel them, or else stick them in the freezer? Pumpkin and apple both freeze ok. Boston Cream, not so much...

I'm taking Dad to the airport on Monday morning. My sister lured him out to Sandy Eggo for the holiday, and he agreed to go for a week. At least he is going to have a wheelchair transport during his transfer in Washington DC (Reagan maybe? He isn't sure). He's 94, so fingers crossed he gets there and back without any exciting adventures. Will add prayers up for you to have no unwanted adventures as well.
    Enjoy your turkey day!!

    1. The freezer it is! Pumpkin pie, one each. Apple pie, one each.

Hope your Dad's trip goes okay!

You can always get keyboard time; time with the Muse is to be savored. Picking up Brownie Points for your effort makes it sort of a "two'fer". Unspoken is the option of celebrating Thanksgiving another day when schedules don't synchro-smash. To be sure, in 1621, Pilgrims didna celebrate on the last Thursday in November.
It'll sort itself out, just keep in mind the timeless advice of ol' Remus; "Avoid Crowds".

  6. With school starting, and the weather changes forcing more indoor time, the creeping cruds are becoming rampant. Locally, at this time, it seems the current crud is a stomach virus that wreaks havoc for a day, or two.
Stay safe, and keep the hand sanitizer close.

  7. While I tend to think you want the break, and the laptop is a nice excuse, I often dictate into blogger using my phone, refining it later on my laptop. I would expect your kids have a computer, or you could pick up a cheap backup laptop. See, aren't I helpful? My wife loves it when she tells me some problem of hers and I solve it instead of just listening quietly.

    1. Sorry for those comments removed by author, too many dictation typos! Haha 😜

    2. I would never dictate to my phone, my diction is confusing at best, unintelligible at worst.

No, the laptop isn't an excuse, I have another. Just want to spend some downtime with the family.

Ah, you're one of those "problem solvers," we have a guy like that at work. Everyone stopped listening to him.

      😁

    4. Not really, but I often have to bite my tongue with the wife, even though I have the solution to her problems.

  8. I prefer my nine-hour road trip to the Panhandle of Texas versus air travel over Thanksgiving. May the odds of your luggage arriving with you be always in your favor!

  10. Sarge - if it is any consolation, I traveled by air yesterday. Planes were packed but people were generally in a good mood and the airports were not overflowing (a bit to my surprise). Best of luck.

The childcare situation sounds utterly depressing - and utterly familiar from others that I have heard.

  11. Crusty Old TV Tech here. I'll say a couple Hail Mary's for your mental health as you traverse the twisted, perverse roadways around BWI. Got lost there once trying to return a rental, ended up at some Lockheed Martin plant gate. But, on the bright side, at least it's not LGA! And, the trip is for a good cause, so skol!

    1. Argh, LGA! Yup, best to avoid that.

I'm not renting a car, I'm having a "local" pick me up. (My daughter.)

  12. Sucks that the paper-work fairy didn't do her job for the daycare. Let us hope for your clan that they manage to get their waterfowls back into a semblance of order quickly and reopen, or the parents find a new and properly papered daycare.

As to the laptop, still yikes. As sucky as my $400 dollar Amazon laptop is, it works. And if it breaks, I can get another one within a couple days at the most.

I may have a few posts in me.
