Guess what?
Went to bed last night feeling a bit off. Woke up in the wee hours and felt like five miles of bad road. Doused it with medicine, which helped me sleep, but the length of sleep was inadequate.
I feel like that ship looks, still underway but kinda beat up.
I had to get up and go to a funeral, didn't have to get up at 0700, but I did. My body said, "Hey, get your ass out of bed and drink coffee or something." So I did, didn't really help.
Got dressed up (i.e. put on one of my two suits) and went down to church to say goodbye to a really fine man. Born in a bomb shelter in England in 1941, he and his folks emigrated to the U.S. after the war and he then spent the rest of his life in Little Rhody, well, except for a four year hitch in the Navy. A really good guy, sad to see him go.
That's one problem with aging, your friends start leaving for the next world. Sucks to lose 'em, but it was good to know them.
Maybe tomorrow I'll feel more up to snuff. I am pissed, I wanted to go see the dinosaurs at the zoo with the grandkids, but I missed out.
Dang.
Maybe next time.
Be seeing you.

ReplyDeleteWorth the read (or re-read) friend.
Listen to your body and sit out somethings so you can be fully there for others.
Yup.
DeleteHope you're feeling better Sarge. The older I get the more folks I know have taken off on their journey to their next duty station.
ReplyDeleteOn the mend.
DeleteRest is best--- at least right now.
ReplyDeleteHope the rest of the clan escapes this malady,
JB
One can but hope.
DeleteHeal swiftly, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWorking on it.
DeleteSigh. The "rest" portion of that equation always angers me, especially because I want to be doing things (like dinosaurs - who does not want to do that?).
ReplyDeleteI am reaching that age where friends and family take that Last Long Road more frequently as well.
Rest can be annoying, but it is essential.
DeleteSorry about losing your friend, that sucks out loud. My escape from getting sick (I'm a wuse) is chugging Nyquil every time I go to the bathroom. Then go back to bed. Not little shots, chugs out of the bottle. Uh, don't try that at home, boys and girls.
ReplyDeleteBe careful, you might be destroying your liver, acetaminophen has a tendency to do that if overused.
DeleteHope you feel better soon. You’re on the prayer list, but take it easy!
ReplyDeletejuvat
Taking it easy, aye.
DeleteDidn't attend my first funeral until I was in my 30s, and then next until my 40s- just never knew anyone that had passed away. Now, they're a bit too regular for my liking, and they're accelerating. Age does that.
ReplyDeleteMy paternal grandmother died when I was 18, traumatic doesn't begin to describe it.
